One To Click On by Jon

Welcome to the new issue of Hit Exchange News!

After last week's rant that I did in 'One To Click On', I decided to take it easy this week. The first bit of news is that there will not be an issue of Hit Exchange News next week. I am taking off to Toronto for a few weeks to help my family take care of some business. I will be online everyday, however I just won't have the time to write HEN next week. I apologize in advance for this missed dose of HEN.

That being said, it's Issue 127! Amazing how one little idea can transform into a weekly newsletter that is either loved or hated by so many people *lol*. I'm honored that you have once again taken the time out of your day to read through this week's issue. If you noticed, I have changed the delivery time of the newsletter. I used to stay up until all hours of Wednesday night, finishing HEN but have decided to brew myself a cup of coffee in the morning and write it when I wake up. Please let me know if you prefer this delivery time, or not. This is your e-zine, and I want to make sure the readers are o.k. with the time change.

Any ways, enough of the boring stuff, let's get ready for another issue...

Thanks for reading this week's issue of Hit Exchange News!

The News

  • The shocker of the week has got to be the unexpected sale of Wolf Surfer. This amazing traffic exchange went on eBay this week looking for a new owner. It is a very surprising move because this is a 100% hand coded traffic exchange with so much upside, I really do hope it finds a responsive new owner. Time will tell!
  • Seminars, conferences, must attend events...It seems that more and more traffic exchanges are starting to get in the swing of holding weekly seminars in their support room. These are some of the best ways to meet and greet other surfers, but when are the next seminars taking place? There are two new services that not only tell you when the seminars are on, but also give you great tips and tricks for attending them as well. Be sure to check out Karen Ann Moore's Seminar Buzz and Simon Kelly's Recommended Conferences. Amazing resources for some of the most powerful events online today!
  • There was some brand new features added to Webmaster Quest this week. A targeted traffic option was added to let you pick and choose what 'category' your web site would fall under. If an exchange can pull this off, WebmasterQuest can, as it does have a large membership base which I think is the only way targeting can work.
  • This Week's Splash Page Hall of Fame Entry is this splash page by Funny Farm Traffic! One thing can be said about Uncle Bobby, he does know how to get a chuckle or two out of his members. A great splash, that uses a touch of humor and a great headline!

The HEN Top Ten results are based on traffic statistics (unique hits, traffic flow, hits delivered, traffic quality) and a touch of good old fashioned 'opinion'. The industry changes just like in the real world, so an exchange may not be on the list this week, but will be number 1 next week! Discuss this week's Top 10 list in the Net Marketing Forum!

Enjoy this week's list!

  1. TS 25
  2. WebmasterQuest

  4. Traffic Soldiers
  5. Traffic Roundup
  6. Mystical Maze
  7. StartXChange

Hey Jon, how come I Love Hits, Click Crazey and SWAT Traffic are never on the top 10 list? Since I own them, I feel it would be a conflict of interest to place it on any of my rankings. If you want to see how well they are performing each week, please check TestHoopla top 20 weekly ranking!

Deep Thoughts - Feature Articles

Deep Thoughts by Jon Olson

I always get a kick out of going to a popular marketing forum and see this topic arise every few days...

Do traffic exchanges work?

The normal answers pop up like 'I tried them for a week but nothing happened' and my favorite 'These programs are going to fail in a few months'. I enjoy it because it's what has been said about traffic exchanges since the day of Urgle.co.uk *that's a really old traffic exchange*. So for 6 years now, traffic exchanges have not been working, the results are not what is promised and they will crumble in a few months.

O.k., that's enough sarcasm for one day but it brings up a really good point. If traffic exchanges were so 'bad', then why are they one of the most recommended free resources to advertise your web site? Did you know that these programs are positioned so well that they are the perfect first step for new marketers to learn about advertising online? Yes, I said it! We are positioned in the perfect place!

I attended an offline seminar this past week and was blown away at the amount of new people that are coming online to find additional income through an internet business. There are hundreds if not thousands of new people looking for a way to promote their business for little or no cost every day. This is so exciting for me because no one can tell me there is 'no growth' in the traffic exchanges anymore.

Take a look at the latest TE Challenge, where brand new programs are getting hundreds of new members every week. Even my own program, I Love Hits, has received thousands of new members this past month and it's still growing by leaps and bounds!

We, traffic exchange surfers and owners, are sitting very pretty. Yes I am a TE cheerleader! In the next few years, get ready for these things to explode as more and more people jump online and try to advertise their business. Now what are we all doing to get ready for this growth? That....Is a question only you can answer!

Tony's Thoughts

Is it Worth Upgrading in a Traffic Exchange?

I am asked this question many times each week. Only YOU can decide whether or not it fits your pocketbook. Here are several points you might ask yourself during the decision making process.

The first question to ask yourself is "Are you tracking the traffic delivered from the traffic exchange?" If you are not, that's your first problem to solve. It is difficult to make a decision if you do not know if the exchange is delivering traffic.

Is the traffic exchange delivering the traffic you are earning as a free member? If not, skip the upgrade. It's that simple.

Here are some other considerations that can assist you in your decision making process.

For example at TrafficPod and Traffic Syndicate 25, upgraded members receive a considerable discount on credit purchases. A free member can purchase 10,000 hits for $69.99. It cost an upgraded member $49.99. It's something else to consider.

Traffic exchanges like ILoveHits, TrafficSoldiers, AdvertisingKnowHow, MaxTrafficPro, Nexus and others, give random referrals to their upgraded members. This benefit can pay dividends.

Commissions vary among the traffic exchanges, but I do want to make one point. I like what Nexus does. If you have any commissions coming, you get them. It makes no difference if it's only $2.00. You earned 'em, you get 'em at Nexus. Many programs make payments at $10.00, $20.00 or in some cases $50.00. They know that most people will not stick around long enough to collect the $50.00. A big consideration is at what level does the exchange pay the commissions.

Some exchanges have a 2 to 1 surfing ratio and will give you a 1 to 1 surfing ratio if you upgrade. If you are receiving 1000 hits a month from an exchange as a free member, you can double what you receive for the same effort by upgrading. If it costs you $5 for 1000 extra hits it is an easy decision. You probably can't purchase that many hits for that price.

Hmmmmmm, wonder if YOU will upgrade?

Program Review - Canadian Clicks

O.k., you know something is off when a lady from the south eastern United States owns a traffic exchange called Canadian Clicks, but hey, I am not complaining!

Canadian Clicks is something rare online. Rare because this is script that is used by a handful of TE's out there (maybe 3 or 4 programs). So rare in fact, I don't even know what to call it but this is a good thing. The most popular traffic exchanges out there, for the most part, are on scripts that not everyone uses. So it's good to change things up a bit and Canadian Clicks does just that!

It is very easy to use, and once you get surfing you will see how smooth this script works. The surf bar is very nice, the theme is great *o.k., I'm a little biased seeing that I am a Canuck* and the traffic flow is great.

With added promotion, this could be a very strong program and one to watch for!

Things That Make You Go...Hmmm? (A 'Different' Look at the Industry!)

  • Viral Visitors is deleting all inactive accounts on April 25th. Hey that's one day after my birthday! Hmmm....
  • Google is still cracking down on 'surf exchange related click throughs'. Try to take Ad Sense off your splash pages, use it as it was meant to be used! Hmmm....
  • The TE Challenge is still going on and wow, what a great race it has become. Amazing what a traffic exchange can do when owners actually put in effort huh? Hmmm....
