The Pulse of the Hit Exchange Industry!
May 18th, 2006

One To Click On by Jon

Welcome to the new issue of Hit Exchange News!

What a great week! As many of you know, I had the pleasure of attending another Focus 4 Seminar this past week in Dallas, Texas. I know I have been preaching about how important these kind of events are and with the next one only 7 weeks away, get ready for more comments about offline events.

It was an amazing experience. Not only did it get me thinking about new ways to increase my business, I got to meet some of the people that help this industry develop each and every day.

So I wanted to thank Shane Dolby, Stephen Ayer, Eva Mah, Aaron Peavy, Pat Lovell, Jon Atwood, Robert Puddy, Richard Taylor, Tim Whiston, Jennifer Herold, Dan Moses, Mark Brown, Mike Paetzold, Simon Kelly, Bobby Ivie and Bill Carr for making this Focus 4 seminar such a huge success.

I was amazing to see 16 traffic exchange owners, all in the same room together. Each of their eyes and ears were so focused on not only the speaker that was presenting but on their dreams and goals for their business. I'll tell you this, each and every one of those names above are AMAZING people. And this is the power of the offline seminar, you put a face to a name and get a real good feel for what kind of business person they are.

It will be amazing to see the networks and possible joint ventures that come from Dallas. I look forward to seeing the results in a few months time if not sooner. So basically here's the moral of this story, if you have not been to one of these offline events yet...Go!

Just to give you an example, Stephen Ayer said in Net Marketing Forum: Going to Dallas was the smartest thing I have done in a long time.... I would encourage anyone reading this to try making it to Seattle in July, or to another event soon! You won't regret it...."

Thanks for reading this week's issue of Hit Exchange News!

The News

  • Congratulations to both Max Traffic Pro and Traffic Surfer for reaching the 2000 member mark at roughly the same time. These two new exchanges have proven themselves over and over again to be real players in this business. Amazing what a few 'promotions' can do for a business. Be sure to read my 'deep thought' this week!
  • It's a very good sign that things are going extremely well when you are forced to increase the benefits a pro member receives in a traffic exchange! Traffic Soldiers has been OVER delivering these past few weeks and to help get things leveled out a bit, Soldiers is now offering much bigger bonuses to all their upgraded members. This is a very good problem to have!
  • This Week's Splash Page Hall of Fame Entry is this from Traffic At The Races. While it may seem like a generic splash page, I really like the branding that takes place with the colors and how that red and green is quickly becoming the colors that let you know, it's a T.A.T.R. promotion.

The HEN Top Ten results are based on traffic statistics (unique hits, traffic flow, hits delivered, traffic quality) and a touch of good old fashioned 'opinion'. The industry changes just like in the real world, so an exchange may not be on the list this week, but will be number 1 next week! Discuss this week's Top 10 list in the Net Marketing Forum!

Enjoy this week's list!

  1. Traffic Soldiers
  2. StartXChange
  3. Traffic Swarm
  4. Max Traffic Pro
  5. TS 25
  6. Hit Pulse
  7. Traffic Roundup
  8. Hit Safari
  9. WebmasterQuest
  10. Traffic Surfer

Hey Jon, how come I Love Hits, Click Crazey and SWAT Traffic are never on the top 10 list? Since I own them, I feel it would be a conflict of interest to place it on any of my rankings. If you want to see how well they are performing each week, please check TestHoopla top 20 weekly ranking!

Deep Thoughts - Feature Articles

Deep Thoughts by Jon Olson

What are you waiting for? I mean, be honest. Is their some reason you have not exploded your business yet? Now this little rant is meant to be directed at exchange owners, but you can use the example for any business model as well.

So again, I ask. Why do you not have thousands of members yet in your business? Is their something you are waiting for? Some magic button that you press and it automatically creates a database of thousands?

Why is it that the same names seem to pop up when asked, what traffic exchanges do you see the most while surfing in the forums? What makes someone like Austin from Traffic Surfer different than Billy Bob from XYZ Exchange? I'm going to reveal something, and while it may not be that 'magic button' people are looking for, once you 'get it' you will understand.

You need to keep your business in front of people for as long and as often as you can!

That does NOT mean, launch a new exchange, spend a few hundred on advertising and then give up a month later. That does not mean, e-mail me about a new traffic exchange and never spend a dime on advertising. And it definitely does not mean, wait for your members to promote your business.

I call it traffic exchange brand awareness, and it is the single biggest reason why Tony Tezak is known in this business for being a 'TE expert' while Jimmy Smith is just a generic affiliate ID number for a generic affiliate program. And how does this happen? How do you stick out from the crowd? Sustained advertising!

There is no magic button that gets you results and no excuse to why your traffic exchange should not be celebrating 2000 members or even 20000. It just takes effort and a whole lot of advertising.

So the decision is yours really, maintain your business or explode it!

Program Review - Surf 2 Success

There has been a huge increase in new exchanges that have launched in the past few weeks. I'm not sure if it's the time of year, or that people are feeling adventurous but the next wave is upon us.

Surf 2 Success is a relatively new exchange that uses the TCN back end script similar to TraffcRoundup, MaxTrafficPro and others. That means it is extremely easy to use. There is no complicated campaigns to start, just as easy as point and click. This is the strength of the TCN script, and a reason it is becoming so popular.

Surf 2 is a very well designed exchange, I really enjoy the 'feel' it has. Far too many exchanges use a generic template but this exchange really does a good job at creating it's own presence online.

Now the trick will be, to see how well this develops and how long the owner will keep it in front of surfers. A very solid program!

Things That Make You Go...Hmmm? (A 'Different' Look at the Industry!)

  • Advertising Know How is giving away $100 in a new contest for the top surfer and referrer. Spending all that time in the States has gone to Mr. Puddy's head, take advantage while you can =) Hmmm....
  • Note to self, the next time everyone you know tells you to explore the wonderful world of Ad Sense, do it! Hmmm....
  • Edmonton won their second round in the NHL playoffs. If they make it to the finals, I'm going to live in Edmonton for a week. Hmmm....
