One To Click On by Jon

Welcome to the new issue of Hit Exchange News!

Just a note, that there will not be an issue of HEN next week. I am gearing up for my next road trip and this months destination is Seattle, Washington. I am attending the Focus 4 The Future seminar and will be on the road for most of the month of July.

I will do my best to make sure HEN comes out but for the next few weeks I am going to be very busy and travelling a lot. Please be sure to check out Hit Exchange Blog to keep up to date with everything happening in the traffic exchange industry!

Thanks for reading this week's issue of Hit Exchange News!

The News

  • With the new acceptable use policy that PayPal has laid out, more and more traffic exchanges are getting rid of the multi-leveled structure in their business models. Also, you will see that the commissions that used to be offered are slowly disappearing as well. While some folks are extremely upset about these changes, I do tend to feel that this in fact going back to the roots of what a traffic exchange is, a way to get people to your websites, nothing more nothing less.
  • It's been the first few weeks since the Focus 4 page checker was put online. And more and more traffic exchanges are coming on board to support this protective service that stops frame breakers and viruses dead in their tracks. Expect big things from this service and even more big name traffic exchanges displaying the 'badge'.
  • Google has released it's new payment processor however this does not look like a viable second option to PayPal. With all the hoopla surrounding our little favorite payment service these past few weeks, Google was thought to be a viable new option. However it does not look, so far, like this will be the case. Time will tell, and if they treat their payment processor clients like they do their Ad Sense publishers...Well, I'll just leave it at that.
  • This Week's Splash Page Hall of Fame Entry is this page from WhirlWind Traffic. I have got to admit something, I did design the original version of this splash page but what Gary has done to it since is amazing. It's the perfect size, great headline and more importantly, it gets the logo branded!

The HEN Top Ten results are based on traffic statistics (unique hits, traffic flow, hits delivered, traffic quality) and a touch of good old fashioned 'opinion'. The industry changes just like in the real world, so an exchange may not be on the list this week, but will be number 1 next week! Discuss this week's Top 10 list in the Net Marketing Forum!

Hey Jon, how come I Love Hits, Click Crazey and SWAT Traffic are never on the top 10 list? Since I own them, I feel it would be a conflict of interest to place it on any of my rankings. If you want to see how well they are performing each week, please check TestHoopla top 20 weekly ranking!

Deep Thoughts - Feature Articles

Deep Thoughts by Jon Olson

Stop following and start leading!

Do you want to know the secret to all this internet marketing mumbo jumbo? Want to know why some folks earn tens of thousands of dollars a month while you only put together scraps from time to time? Want to know the 'secret' that these so called mentors keep from you so that YOU keep putting money in their pocket and continue to build their businesses?

The answer is an easy one! Stop making these people rich and become your own leader! These folks that tell you to follow systems and never stray from their outlined path are guaranteeing your failure. Do you want to know why? Because of the 100 or so people they bring into the system only a few will have the guts and the smarts to step away from their 'system' and build their OWN businesses.

That does not mean you need to develop your own program, or even your own product. Your product should be YOU, and YOU should benefit from every action you do online. Here's a test, how much money is your 'leader' making online, and then how much are you earning? If it was so easy to duplicate as they say it is, you should be earning as much as they are correct? I'm willing to bet that is not the case.

I know some folks will be angry by this article, and that's fine, I expect it. I have never been one to shy away from controversy, but let me make a suggestion to you. The next time they tell you to follow them down a path, stand up and develop your own mailing list, your own ideas and most important, develop yourself into a leader. It's not the easy way, and that is what they hope will scare you away, but it works. And so far, it's the only way I have found any success online, by promoting ME first!

What Are You Promoting?

Do you surf a lot? I do. Not when compared to some, of course. I know our Jon O. surfs way more than I do, but I think that three hours a day is still enough to know...

There are easily a zabillion programs being advertised out there! (I'd count, but I'm way too busy ^^^translates in the real world as lazy^^^ to really count how many different programs, products, and services are rotating before our eyes.)

If you were like me, you might have joined one or two of those programs, too. Why not, right? Other people made money; why not you?

The truth is, some people make money, if they're in on the very first day of prelaunch or if they own the programs, maybe they make a lot of money. However, most of us just struggle along, earn a little, and then become frustrated when nobody is interested anymore. Or, the program is closed by authorities or closes on its own because it was never a viable business model in the first place.

Case in point: Studio Traffic. I'm now disturbed to admit that I belonged to that program for almost as long as it existed. In the beginning of my online career, I thought that it was a fine deal. Invest a little, make a lot. And it had "side businesses" to keep it from being just another Ponzi scam. Then, over at NetMarketingForum, my eyes were opened. Those side businesses were just a cover for what was really going on and I was ashamed that I had been involved with a scam all along! Boy, was my face red, especially when the program folded for the very reasons I had been warned against.

Stupid newbie me.

OK. I wasn't hurt too badly when I pulled away several months before everything blew up. But what upset me more was that my duhhhh-ness extended to the people I had recruited. I really didn't have that many at ST, but still, I had gone around the Internet Marketing world touting a scam for months!

I had a redder face and even deeper anger, but not with the bogus program, with me! I'm smart, why hadn't I done my homework first? It just never occurred to me that I should. Trust me, I'll never let that happen again. I've learned a lot since then, thank heaven.

But I hope that if you're new to this game like I was then, or maybe if you aren't and just get caught up in the hype and don't stop to consider, you'll take some advice. Always check out a program before you join it. Mike Paetzold once said in an Opt-In Mastercourse seminar, "I never promote anything I haven't bought or joined and tried myself. I have to know it's good before I tell others that it is." Great advice. Aside from checking on programs and the history of their owners, you should also know that products you intend to sell work well before telling other people that they're worth buying.

Why bother?

Well, the obvious reason is that you don't want to be ripped off and you don't want your clients to be ripped off, either. But it's really deeper than that. The most valuable asset you have online is your reputation. To get people to trust you, to buy from you, or to join your programs, you have to build a good name. If you promote programs that are worthless, guess what your reputation will be?

I learned my lesson, mea culpa-ed and all. And though I should have known better to start, I now follow the good advice of my online associates and Mr. Paetzold, and will do so from here until the end of time. It's the only clear way to do business, online or off.

Program Review - Dr. Click

Huh? Another PTC? Yes and no, as this is a very similar program to last week's Storm of Cash. The biggest difference with this program and S.O.C. is that Dr. Click is online more and is a much more stable program than it's competitor.

Dr. Click features all the features of a great PTC but the traffic exchange feature is what makes this a very good program to use. Again, this is not your typical traffic exchange surfer that uses these kind of programs, but you will most definitely want to use a splash page for any advertising you choose to do.

A reliable uptime makes this a great program to advertise your sites in, but again, you have to know that most of these people are not looking for new programs but rather to earn a few pennies by clicking on links. Use this to your advantage!

Uptime: 4.5

Things That Make You Go...Hmmm? (A 'Different' Look at the Industry!)

  • Google cancels my account, Chitika won't approve my application...I'm done with contextual advertising. Hmmm....
  • These PPC refreshing scripts are getting to be quite a nuisance. Just to let everyone know, I have been suspending abusive accounts for the past 48 hours in I Love Hits. Hmmm....
  • Next week, I'm in Seattle. The week after that, Toronto. One side of the continent to the next, in 2 days or less. This should be a fun July! Hmmm....
