The Pulse of the Hit Exchange Industry!

One To Click On by Jon

Welcome to the new issue of Hit Exchange News!

What an amazing week! I just got home from the Focus 4 The Future seminar in Seattle and got to network with not only some of the biggest names in Internet Marketing, but got to meet some of my fellow traffic exchange owners for the first time.

It was an honor to meet William Brant, Jack Schafer and Brett Phillips for the first time and let me say this, these guys are the cream of the crop in not only personality but business sense. If you are a member of any of their exchanges, you are in such good hands!

Of course, the guys from Focus 4 put on an amazing show! The panel of experts they had was second to none and everyone was so happy with the conference, from attendee to presenter. I am very proud of Robert Puddy and Rich Taylor, because these guys had a dream only about a year ago and have worked so hard and long, but are now finally seeing their goals fulfilled. Way to go guys, I look forward to next year's seminars!

Thanks for reading this week's issue of Hit Exchange News!

The News

  • Speaking of Brett Phillips, he has now taken full control of RainforestClicks.com and is getting ready for some major changes to this year old program. I expect big things from this exchange, so be sure to keep a close eye on the Rainforest!
  • HitHarvester.com has got a new owner (I think). This program has changed ownership quite a bit in the past few years, but it looks like it has got a new permanent home. Hopefully this once top of line exchange can return to glory with some extra promotion and maybe a new site design.
  • TS 25 has promised to tackle the abusive sites that are infecting people's surf sessions. I hope this can be taken care of soon, because I for one love to buy credits and surf this program and if the surfers aren't happy, us advertisers get worried. I do expect Logiscape to tackle this, as they have in the past.
  • This Week's Splash Page Hall of Fame Entry is this page from Traffic Punk. I laughed my tail off while checking out this splash page and to be honest, Traffic Punk has got some of the best splash pages out there right now. Too funny!

The HEN Top Ten results are based on traffic statistics (unique hits, traffic flow, hits delivered, traffic quality) and a touch of good old fashioned 'opinion'. The industry changes just like in the real world, so an exchange may not be on the list this week, but will be number 1 next week! Discuss this week's Top 10 list in the Net Marketing Forum!

Enjoy this week's list!

  1. TS 25
  2. Traffic Roundup
  3. Mystical Maze
  4. StartXChange
  5. Advertising Know How
  6. Traffic Swarm
  7. Hit Safari

Hey Jon, how come I Love Hits, Click Crazey and SWAT Traffic are never on the top 10 list? Since I own them, I feel it would be a conflict of interest to place it on any of my rankings. If you want to see how well they are performing each week, please check TestHoopla top 20 weekly ranking!

K.I.S.S.

Keep it simple! I think this is a major problem with not only splash page designs these days but internet business in general. Let's be honest, how much attention does someone give to a page in rotation? Not enough I'm sure, but even when they do, why do some folks try to make it so complicated?

I really feel traffic exchange promotions should keep it extremely simple. We should know what our potential customers are doing, they are surfing for credits, so lets do our best to stick out from the crowd and most importantly get our message across as quickly and painlessly as possible.

I hate to use the old 'K.I.S.S.' principle, but it does work. By keeping our splash pages and traffic exchange promotions simple, we allow for our brands to stick out. Remember, use these program to create brand awareness and build your mailing lists, this is the real power behind a traffic exchange. You do not need a small novel to do this. A quick loading splash page, with your name all over it does the trick!

The Best Place to Be

As some of you may know, I make my living as a writer. Though I've been writing books of late, my first jobs were with newspapers. Do you know the very best thing that could happen to a freelancer?

Let me tell you.

I used to dance the hula when my article made it 'above the fold'! That meant that my incredibly vibrant words (well, okay… interesting words, maybe?) were on the front page, and that my article would be one of the first things anyone who picked up that newspaper saw. Readers bring fame. Fame brings more work. Trust me. Above the fold is a very good place to be.

So, why am I telling you this?

Because you should want your best stuff 'above the fold,' too. It's a little different with web pages, of course, but you can see what I mean, no doubt. You want your most important information to show up immediately when the page opens. People shouldn't have to scroll down to find the information, it should be right there, in their faces!

This is especially important in traffic exchanges. Some timers are only 10 seconds long. If someone has to scroll down the page to find what you want them to know, odds are, they never will. Hence, the splash page.

The best splash page is, of course, the squeeze or lead capture page, where you give something away in return for the person's name and email address. But splash pages don't have to be squeeze pages. A funny picture or illustration will get someone to click on your link. Or, a shocking statement might do the job.

Whatever you use, be sure that the splash page is about 650 pixels wide. People seem to read narrower text more easily. And be sure to end your page before you hit the bottom of the screen. That gives you about a 468 X 650 pixel page or so. You can optimize the space by using a table, divided into two columns. However, more than that is just asking to be ignored.

Stand out and sell your product or program! Use splash pages that sit 'above the fold,' and watch your sales stats rise.

Program Review - Traffic Planets

Remember when Max Traffic Pro launched? I remember that gut feeling I had when I saw William Brant's new traffic exchange take off, I thought to myself these are the real gems in this business, a traffic exchange that comes onto the scene with an owner that 'gets it'.

Let me introduce you all to a new traffic exchange by another owner that seems to 'get it', it's called Traffic Planets. First, the only thing I would change. I really would like to see automatic URL approvals and banner approvals. I know this is a task that some owners want to handle, but I do like getting traffic right away. O.k. that was the small itty bitty 'change' I would make, now for the good stuff...

The design, the logo, the set up, the upgrades, the feel and the traffic delivery make this one to watch for. I assigned about 100 credits to my splash page for HEN, and got two subscribers in the first day. In fact, it's in 'Bubbling Under' this week.

Get ready for some big things from this program, I hope I am right because it looks like it's got all the makings of a real winner!

Things That Make You Go...Hmmm? (A 'Different' Look at the Industry!)

  • Note to self, remember to check departure times properly when booking a cross country train ride. 1:00 means 1 in the morning, not 1 in the afternoon! Hmmm....
  • I'll be offline for the next 36 hours, I don't know if I can manage that long without internet...It's my addiction! Hmmm....
  • A new service called Voice 2 Page was released, it looks to be a solid program and I hope some folks realize that voice on splash pages is not a bad thing. Hmmm....
