The News
The HEN Top Ten results are based on traffic statistics (unique hits, traffic flow, hits delivered, traffic quality) and a touch of good old fashioned 'opinion'. The industry changes just like in the real world, so an exchange may not be on the list this week, but will be number 1 next week! Discuss this week's Top 10 list in the Net Marketing Forum! Deep Thoughts - Feature Articles
Deep Thoughts by Jon OlsonWhat makes you...You? Branding! Ahh, this seems to be the word of the day doesn't it? Every few months, there seems to be a new term or word that gets thrown around the internet, and marketers from here to Australia scramble to learn everything about it. Remember 'niche'? Or how about 'unique traffic?' Well branding seems to be the word of the week so I thought I would explore it a bit in this week's Deep Thoughts. Want to know why Jon Olson is considered an expert in the traffic exchange industry? Or have you ever heard of the name Tony Tezak for example? Or let's even look at it from an offline point of view, what restaurant do you think of when you think of 'the golden arches?'. This is all branding and one of the most important aspects of advertising. And that's what we are doing right? We are advertising. We are advertising to build our brand and to bring awareness to our business and or product. Folks, the traffic exchanges are one of the best places to do this and do it very effectively. So many people will run around in circles trying to build a business online without this one key aspect of advertising planned out, what is your brand? The easy answer, the brand is you! You are unique, you are different, you have something people should hear. And there is no 'e-book' that will tell you this and certainly no 'product' that will help you realize it. The only way to discover what makes you unique is to find out for yourself. This does not mean you have to become the expert in physics. This does not mean you have to have a PHD in medicine. All this means is that you have to stick out from the crowd. You have to create that image for your potential clients. People come to me for consulting because the name 'Jon Olson' is branded to traffic exchanges. This did not just happen. And trust me on this, anyone can build their own brand. The real trick to it, is to discover it for yourself. And that, can never be taught, it has to be realized!

FYI by Pat Marcello
Logiscape: Veddy Interesting I used to be a HUGE fan of both TS25 and TrafficPods. I say, "used to be" because it occurred to me that I was taking too much time reporting sites with frame-breaking or nasty, porny pages. Plus, my computer was being dosed with lots of evil ware and piles of moldy cookies. I didn't like that one bit. So, I quit. Instead of surfing 1,000 sites a week, I'm down to less than a third of that. And I feel better to have broken the yoke of obligation. I mean, I didn't WANT to lose my POD or to be in a lower Syndicate, but I wasn't into paying for a bad surf experience and fewer and fewer results. Last week over in Net Marketing Forum, this became clear as I and other members of those Logiscape exchanges spewed our disgust for all to see. But, but, but… Instead of a snarky reply, Rick S., admin for TS25, TrafficPods, and HitPulse, replied to my rant with gentile aplomb. He wrote, "We understand your frustration (as well as others). This is why we are in the middle of some big changes that will completely change the surfing experience on all our exchanges." And a bit more, but I saw the, "We understand," right off, instead of the potential, "You blithering idiot." Now, that's class. With that single sentence, Rick S. gave me hope--hope that I can regain my high esteem for such fine exchanges. And in the bargain, Rick S. just gave himself hope that I will pay again. Had he answered me in a negative fashion, I swear, there would have been cyber blood spilled all over the screen. But no, he took the criticisms like a good businessperson and responded positively. I had to write back and tell Rick that Logiscape couldn't have a better representative for their company. With one sensitive post, he gained tons of respect in my eyes, and so did his exchanges. I'm guessing others felt the same way too. I'm looking forward to some great things from Logiscape, and there's no doubt in my mind that they'll have my business again if things take shape. I only wish that more exchange owners were as responsive. That's not to say that several more TE owners aren't also very quick to respond to their customers' needs and wants, but some of you are totally out of touch with the surfing public. In my eyes, customer service is Job One. It should be in your eyes, too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Program Review - Impact Web AudioDo you remember that article up above when I spoke about branding, and how to make sure YOU are promoted first and foremost? Using splash pages is the perfect way to do that in the traffic exchanges, and by adding certain features to the splash page, you can increase your exposure quite a bit. One of the tools to use on splash pages is audio. Please not that this does not mean that you should stick an annoying extra loud WAV file that automatically loads. A professional sounding voice over does great things for your splash pages and can help you with even more exposure in the exchanges. Remember, attention grabbing is the first 'A' of A.C.A. Splash Page Design! Impact Web Audio is a new program that was developed for people just like me *lol*. People that love to use the cool programs but have zero knowledge of programming and how to make things go 'click'. It's a very straight forward program that allows you to add voice to any page you want. The real treat to this program is that it offers people the choice of background music they want to have and it fades out automatically after a few seconds. This stuff is very cool to use and sounds like you spent thousands of developing professional audio voice overs. Want to make your splash pages stick out? Check out Impact Web Audio! Overall Rating: 4.5 Mouse Clicks (Rating out of 5.0) Have a look at Impact Web Audio by clicking the link! Things That Make You Go...Hmmm? (A 'Different' Look at the Industry!)
