The Pulse of the Hit Exchange Industry!
October 5th, 2006

One To Click On by Jon

Welcome to the new issue of Hit Exchange News!

I have to start this week's issue to say happy birthday to one of my most loyal readers! Happy birthday Mom. I hope you have a great day. =)

It's been a great week for the traffic exchanges once again. I like to measure how well the industry is performing by the number of new subscribers to Hit Exchange News, new members to my traffic exchange and overall activity according to my ad trackers. It's been another very good 7 days!

This trend continues to prove to me, that the traffic exchanges are more than ever, such a viable and effective form of online advertising. Be sure to check out my article this week in the Deep Thoughts section for one of the most eye opening announcements I have ever read in an update from a traffic exchange owner....

Thanks for reading this week's issue of Hit Exchange News!

The News

  • This week one of the most popular and oldest traffic exchanges, Traffic Roundup made some big changes to it's structure. It lowered it's timer to 10 seconds and made the surf ratio a 3:1 for it's free membership. I like the changes as traffic flow is now quicker than ever at Roundup.
  • One of the most popular and active traffic exchanges on the net turned 5 years old this past week. Congratulations to Web Biz Insider for this remarkable achievement. It's great to see one of the older traffic exchanges, still remain visible and active while so many have fallen off the map!
  • There was another anniversary this week as well! True View Traffic is one year old! This once promising traffic exchange has been online for over a year now and when the concept behind this program was one of the best new ideas to come online, it never did take off as much as first anticipated. Hopefully in year two there will be an even bigger push towards developing it into a big player in the industry.
  • Special guest speaker! It's Thursday again and tonight we have Mr. Mike Paetzold discussing everything you ever wanted to know about building your mailing list with the traffic exchanges. Be sure to join us tonight at 8 pm eastern time and join me in the voice chat room! See you there!
  • This Week's Splash Page Hall of Fame Entry is this page! It sure does look like a SplashBuilders.com page and while I cannot be sure, this splash page is exactly what you want in a quick loading, effective site.

The HEN Top Ten results are based on traffic statistics (unique hits, traffic flow, hits delivered, traffic quality) and a touch of good old fashioned 'opinion'. The industry changes just like in the real world, so an exchange may not be on the list this week, but will be number 1 next week! Discuss this week's Top 10 list in the Net Marketing Forum!

Enjoy this week's list!

  2. Hit Pulse

Hey Jon, how come I Love Hits, Click Crazey and SWAT Traffic are never on the top 10 list? Since I own them, I feel it would be a conflict of interest to place it on any of my rankings. If you want to see how well they are performing each week, please check TestHoopla top 20 weekly ranking!

Thank Goodness For Traffic Roundup

Stephen and Bobby from TrafficRoundup.com sent the most important email update that this traffic exchange industry has ever seen and I could not do an issue of Hit Exchange News without mentioning it and discussing the importance of it.

I have been saying this for years, and finally someone has the stats to prove me right. In a recent poll from Roundup members, it was asked how long have you been involved with TrafficRoundup. Here is the stat that sticks out for me:

19.20% of the membership answered 'I am brand new'.

Wow! What does this tell us? Why is this such a huge chunk of marketing information that every single one of us can use? Simple, it shows that there are hundreds of people joining these programs everyday and that the bulk of who you should be promoting to, are new members to the traffic exchange industry.

These programs have been the front line for years and finally we can prove it to be. New people join the traffic exchanges for free and low cost advertising, these are the perfect potential clients you are looking for. Imagine being the first person they meet about how to make money online? Imagine you are the first person that teaches them how to develop a winning strategy to build your mailing list? This is exactly the position you want to be in.

So the numbers are there, the proof is known, now what are you going to do about it? How are you going to develop your strategies to best utilize this information? Think of some creative ways you can develop some campaigns that attract this huge chunk of the market and you are on your way to traffic exchange success.

Pat Marcello's New Rules

Here's the thing: If Bill Maher can have new rules, then... so can Pat Marcello. (You can make up your own, too, of course.) I'm going to impart mine to you here, so that you may decide if some of mine shouldn't be some of yours. Here goes:

New Rule #1: Traffic exchanges with more than 1 framebreaking site per session are OUT! (At least until they their stuff back together.) Sorry, guilty parties, I don't have time to be messing with your issues. I realize how difficult it is to find framebreakers with some scripts, and that if we surfers each did our part, it wouldn't be so hard, but... Ohhhhh, well.

New Rule #2: Any traffic exchange owner that sends me nothing but "buy this," "buy that" messages with no other news or innovations for their exchange between now and the dawn of time is OUT! I realize that I permit you to send me messages the day I signed up, and I have no problem with a sales message now and then, but every day? Nope. Didn't sign up for that. OUT!

New Rule #3: All future browser scripts will include a "tab off" button so that I can listen to music at one tab and not have to be interrupted by another. Sound is great. Really. It's a fabulous sales tool, and I listen to every message, once. Maybe even twice. OK, three times, but hey... how many times do I have to listen? And just when they're playing the best part of the best song, too. Grr. I want to wrap that 'Hi, my name is _________ and I just can't believe how wonderful this incredible, unbelievable, exciting program is. There's NEVER been anything like it, and it only costs..." Well, I never do find out because I'm already gone. Whoo-hoo.

New Rule #4: Everyone WILL build splash pages for their affiliate pages. Let's get some excitement into this, folks. Aside from alleviating the boredom, It will pay off in referrals. If you think you don't know how to do it, you do. Get a free WYSIWYG page creator like NVu. You can make a splash page in a snap. Just do it!

New Rule #5: Everyone will make money, all day, every day, and have fun while they're doing it. (Har. You like that one, don't you?)

OK. Now that we're all clear. As you were.

Program Review - Click N Putt

No one can ever argue that when a pro only traffic exchange launches, there is a huge rush to get in. Sure, there's lots of hype and the potential to earn quite a bit of money from the get go, but it should be noted when it comes to pro only traffic exchanges the real measure of it's success is how well it performs down the road.

Yes when Click N Putt launches a few weeks ago, everything was great. people were surfing, people were promoting, and everything looked peachy. Then came the reality of it. Traffic delivery has now come to stand still, and while it's being promoted heavily, the huge influx of members has now become a steady join rate. (Which is fine, I have no problem with slow and steady).

As for the program, it has the potential to be an amazing addition. It is a true pro-only exchange because every single person has paid money to join. The design is great, the splash pages are second to none but again, the real test is how well this program will deliver in the next few months.

The jury is out. I do feel it's a decent investment and a good program to join for only a buck, and I really do hope the next few months bring in even more surfers to the pro only side of the industry.

  • It's official, I love LogiBucks! Hmmm....
  • Note to every single new member that has joined a traffic exchange recently. Don't give up in 2 months! Hmmm....
