The Pulse of the Hit Exchange Industry!
October 12th, 2006

One To Click On by Jon

Welcome to the new issue of Hit Exchange News!

So last week I was ranting and raving about that poll that Traffic Roundup took that showed for the most part, most surfers at that program are brand new to the traffic exchanges. Of course, I love polls, so I decided to create one for the entire industry. So far, we've had a decent turn out for posts, but we need you to make your vote count.

When you get a chance today, perhaps after you have read another fun filled issue of Hit Exchange News *shameless plug*, pop over to the forum and cast you vote. The question is very simple, how long have you been surfing the traffic exchanges, but it's very valuable information for each and every surfer to use in their campaigns.

So do please click here and vote when you get a chance and I really hope you enjoy the stats that this poll is uncovering. We will be sure to discuss it in a future issue of H.E.N.

Thanks for reading this week's issue of Hit Exchange News!

The News

  • The evolution of team surfing? StartXChange made some huge additions to it's program this week. it introduced a special new 'team surfing' concept where members basically chose the team they wanted to be in. Like a professional surfing league of sorts. Be sure to look for Team H.E.N. in your member's area when browsing the teams.
  • The free movement is upon us? After a very successful re-launch, Royal Surf is turning a lot of heads in the pro-only side of the traffic exchange industry. This week Traffic Exchange Business switched from being a paid-only traffic program into a free service. It really worked well for Royal Surf, let's see how it does for this program.
  • I mentioned this program a few months ago and thought I would point out some great points about this cool little service. Tutorials 4 Newbies is the product of going to an online seminar (there's one tonight by the way) and acting on the information provided. This is such a cool service that actually designs and writes custom tutorials for new and old traffic exchanges. If you needed some great tips on how to best use some very popular programs, be sure to check it out.
  • Another great seminar is happening tonight, the topic will be how to use the tools and information that is provided to you in this business! Be sure to join us tonight at 8 pm eastern time and join me in the voice chat room! See you there!
  • This Week's Splash Page Hall of Fame Entry is this page! Logo, logo, logo, logo, logo, and while I'm mentioning it, logo! Yes folks, this is the perfect splash page with the perfect logo!

The HEN Top Ten results are based on traffic statistics (unique hits, traffic flow, hits delivered, traffic quality) and a touch of good old fashioned 'opinion'. The industry changes just like in the real world, so an exchange may not be on the list this week, but will be number 1 next week! Discuss this week's Top 10 list in the Net Marketing Forum!

Enjoy this week's list!

  1. StartXChange
  2. TS 25
  3. Traffic Roundup
  4. Hit Pulse
  5. WebmasterQuest
  6. Link Crews
  7. Royal Surf
  8. Hit Safari

Hey Jon, how come I Love Hits, Click Crazey and SWAT Traffic are never on the top 10 list? Since I own them, I feel it would be a conflict of interest to place it on any of my rankings. If you want to see how well they are performing each week, please check TestHoopla top 20 weekly ranking!

Free Vs. Pro

So it's been an interesting few weeks for the pro only traffic exchange model. As many of you know, I used to co-own one of the last true pro only traffic exchanges on the net and it was a great endeavor. One of, if not the most, profitable joint venture I took part in.

Fast forward to today and you can see the extremely popular launch of Click N Putt which has become not only a very good pro only program, but a successful traffic exchange as well. So one could argue, the pro only model is alive and well.

Flip the coin and you see, Royal Surf and Traffic Exchange Business switching gears to become free to join traffic programs. So on this side of the coin, one would argue the strength of the industry is in the free programs.

My take is this (as it always has been). They are simply two options. Neither one is 'stronger' in features or deliver better results. I get great results from both models, they are just two different options for achieving the same thing, getting hits to your web sites.

The topic has been discussed for months and whatever side of the coin you are on, I do really think when programs launch like Click N Putt and re-launch like Royal Surf, there is room for both models!

Stop! In the Name of... Good Business

While surfing traffic exchanges, you can find so much stuff! A pre-launch for this, a remedy for that, software, crap, and WOW! Some people even give away money. (No offense to those folks; I'm sure that some of you are succeeding.)

But I'm talking to newbies (and some olderbies) here: DO NOT spend a dime, until you know who the players are. Seriously.

When I first came online, I bought into every harebrained thing you can imagine. Paid-to-this, Paid-to-that, Matrices, and GASP! The dreaded Autosurf for Cash. What a dummy! Thank heaven I had friends who showed me the light.

But I also spent a lot of money on crappy traffic exchanges, too. Who knew? (Now comes the part for you old-timers, who don't track your results...)

Before you sign-up for a subscription to a traffic exchange, use it for a while before deciding to upgrade. I know every exchange owner out there reading this will want to choke me, but listen, just because an exchange is the biggest or the most fun or the most popular, doesn't mean that it's the best exchange for you or what you're trying to promote.

For instance, I know that if I advertise at Traffic PODs, I will get sign-ups for my list. However, if I advertise the same pages at some other exchanges, I get bupkiss. Nada. Zilch. Ergo, where do you think I spend some money?

Yet, (and here's the funny part), everyone loves TS25, but I get the worst results there. Does that mean it's a bad exchange. NO! It's a great exchange and many people are very successful using the program. I just don't happen to be one of them.

So, you see... It's all relative. If you belong to an exchange with a limited membership and not much activity, but it's producing sales or sign-ups for you, don't go to the big guys and blindly plunk down the cash. Track your results via a tracking link from your own tracker or someone else's. (Google Analytics is free and great for that, too.) Just track in one way or another. Find out which exchange produces the best results for YOU, and then support the exchange. Upgrade, buy credits and go crazy!

But remember, just because that exchange works for you today, it may not tomorrow. Some of the best exchanges have gotten crappy because the owners are off doing other things after a while. Or, nobody promotes the exchange and it goes stagnant and flounders. Or, the membership shifts and suddenly, they don't want what you're selling or they've seen it too much or whatever. They just aren't doing you any good. Stop paying and go where you can do some good.

Otherwise, you're just throwing money away.

Get to know the people you deal with. Get to know who really knows this business and who only pretends to. And then, follow one master and only the traffic exchanges that work for you.

Ciao!

Program Review - Desktop Lightning

Some are calling this the 'next generation' in online advertising. Some are brushing it off as another fad. One thing I can say for sure, this is the coolest technology I have seen for contacting your mailing list. O.k., so it's essentially a glorified mailing list builder, but what I like so much about it so far, is that my upline respects my time.

I have yet to receive any 'buy this amazing hot MLM' notices, but rather very nice welcome messages that really showed me, people see the value in this program. It's not some kind of throw away fad, but rather a good way to build a healthy and responsive network of people.

It hasn't set the internet ablaze, and I'm not sure if it will. It looks like a very solid program, with a sensible owner at the controls. And in this day and age, that's all you really ask for for an online program.

  • Second week in a row I have to say, LogiBucks are the coolest bonus I have ever seen in a Traffic Exchange. Especially if you buy a lot of traffic like I do. Hmmm....
  • What ever happened to Web Meld? Oh it's still online but... Hmmm....
  • I *should* be moving into a new house next week. Please excuse me if I'm a little late with the news next Thursday. Hmmm....
