The Pulse of the Hit Exchange Industry!
November 9th, 2006

One To Click On by Jon

Welcome to the new issue of Hit Exchange News!

I knew it was coming! I have been saying it for years and after the constant abuse these programs get on many big name marketing forums, I can honestly say that the rest of the internet marketing world 'gets it' when it comes to traffic exchanges.

Check out the News this week as there was a new hybrid traffic exchange launched by a very big name in the internet marketing world. And why is this a good sign of things to come? Simple, you cannot deny the power of the traffic exchange model.

Still to this day, we continue to only see about 30% of the surfers promoting a splash page in one form or another. And while we know not everyone will use the tools that are provided, we need to get more people surfing with purpose.

It's been another amazing week for traffic exchanges, and it keeps getting better and better. Not bad for an industry that was not supposed to last past 2002 huh?

Thanks for reading Hit Exchange News and have a great week!

The News

  • Congratulations goes out to Traffic Roundup this week. Roundup hit a milestone in this industry that few other programs have yet to accomplish. It turned 5 years old! Yes, one of the first ever traffic exchanges hit the 5 year mark and still to this day, it's one of the best programs online.
  • A new hybrid traffic exchange / forum was launched this week. Conquer Your Niche is the work of internet top gun Russell Brunson and was launched only hours ago. It combines the power of text based advertising with an active marketing forum. So essentially the more active you are in the forum, the more traffic you get to your ads. I said this years ago, the rest of the internet is finally catching on to the power of traffic exchanges!
  • It's Thursday again! Please join me in the voice chat room at 8pm Eastern time. This week we will be having a great open discussion and splash page review session. Come out and take part in one of the net's only traffic exchange weekly seminar. Quick tip - By attending these seminars you are building your online presence and getting people to know you!
  • This Week's Splash Page Hall of Fame Entry is this page! I love it! The logo is one of the best I have ever seen online and with the customization of the page, it builds for a perfect splash page!

The HEN Top Ten results are based on traffic statistics (unique hits, traffic flow, hits delivered, traffic quality) and a touch of good old fashioned 'opinion'. The industry changes just like in the real world, so an exchange may not be on the list this week, but will be number 1 next week! Discuss this week's Top 10 list in the Net Marketing Forum!

Enjoy this week's list!

  2. Royal Surf

Hey Jon, how come I Love Hits, Click Crazey and SWAT Traffic are never on the top 10 list? Since I own them, I feel it would be a conflict of interest to place it on any of my rankings. If you want to see how well they are performing each week, please check TestHoopla top 20 weekly ranking!

Scammy Scam Scams

What is a scam? And why are they everywhere online? Two questions, multiple answers but to this day it boggles my mind when I read things like this:

I lost money in this program after they shut their doors, oh well...

Or even...

One of these programs will finally make me rich, I just need to keep joining them until I find the right program...

I called it slot machine marketing a few years ago and essentially, it's not getting any better. People still come online and pull that handle, hoping the next program they join will make them rich. Rich huh?

Someone let me know when those yachts will be ready because I'm still trying to figure out how to 'get rich online'. LOL. I don't know if it's sad or funny, or a little of both to see these people continue to go through these programs day in and day out. I mean what will it take for folks to finally realize (get ready for this) that making money online is actual work!

Oh the scams are everywhere! They will continue to exist as long as people play the game of slot machine marketing. Here's a tip and even though it's THE most used phrase online it doesn't hurt to hear it again...

If it sounds too good to be true, it is!

The Gyrations of Rotators

Whoa! How many different types of rotators are there out there? Huh?

( For those of you who may be new to the online marketing community, a rotator works this way: You enter URLs to the products or programs you're promoting. Then, you use one link--which the rotator site provides--to advertise more than one program. It's great because a) it solves having to put all those URLs into all those exchanges, and b) because when you want to change the site you're advertising, rather than changing the URL at several different exchanges, you only need go to the rotator site and change your URL there. Rotators work great, as long as you don't put too many programs into them. When you do, you're just diluting your efforts. )

Now, ask me how many rotators I've had experience using, including my own.

Well, really, don't. Suffice to say, I've about used 'em all.

You can get free rotators just about anywhere--perhaps in your favorite traffic exchange, downline builder, or membership program. Some of these are top-notch. But though they work well, most have a drawback.

And it's really the same drawback that most other free stand-alone rotators out there have.

They advertise themselves along with the sites you're advertising. Granted, you're putting your program ID out there, so you're still benefiting by getting referrals at the rotator site. And some stand-alones do allow you to decide whether you want the branding bar or not. So, this is a matter of personal choice. Do you want to advertise two programs at the same time? But to me, most of them look pretty messy, and as a rule, I prefer not to.

I've often heard that it's best only to offer one thing at a time--one product, one program. Don't give viewers too many options or they'll get confused. In ten to thirty seconds of the traffic exchange window's life, you don't have much time to choose. Well, folks have the option of sticking around for a longer look, but how many do? You have to play to your audience.

This is one reason why I thought using my own rotator on my own server was a good idea. So, I bought the HermitWare version and used it until... I got sick and tired of going to the desktop, opening the software to make a new script, just because I wanted to change one URL, and then, adding it via .ftp to my server, and it just got to be a major pain in my corns.

You know?

It's just much easier to open the rotator site in my browser and to change the URLs whenever I feel like doing it.

But I have favorites in each of the categories above, it's true. I use PageSwirl because there's no branding frame. Sites appear just as they would had you entered them singly into the traffic exchange. I always found that to be a great feature. For a free rotator, it's still the best, and it's worth upgrading in for more features.

But here's another way to use your rotator. If it's not connected to a traffic exchange, which may automatically include the sites you've had approved there, upload your surfing pages from your favorite exchanges and make the rotator URL your browser's start page. Then, each time you open your browser, you'll get a different exchange to surf.

Or, track the links in your rotator by using tracking links, rather than the straight affiliate link or whatever. That way, you'll be able to see if you're getting the hits you're paying for.

Hmm... so many rotators. So little time.

Program Review - Click Crazey

I reviewed this program in Issue 29 but I thought it was time to have a look at it again. A few reasons, one it has changed ownership and second it's got a brand new look. And way I say brand new look, wow is an understatement.

Click Crazey was one of the first ever themed exchanges. It started off with a guy named Crazey John as the theme character but then added Blackie the Invisible Lab Rat to the mix. It was a fun and fresh approach to surfing that had quite a lot of good things going for it.

As time went on, it slowed. Traffic was always there but CC was never mentioned in the 'top exchanges' of the industry. And this thing has been around for a long time too. I think since 2002 roughly.

With the new ownership and brand new look though, I expect BIG things from this program. The traffic flow is some of the best in the industry and with the new look have a lot of people coming back on board.

Things That Make You Go...Hmmm? (A 'Different' Look at the Industry!)

  • Pretty cool idea. Jose Garriga Jr from Viral Express sent out a video invite to his online seminar this past week. Nich touch on the everyday boring emails we get in our inbox. Hmmm....
  • List Lotto seems to be the new big thing these days. I only had 25 emails promoting it this past week. Hmmm....
  • Yes, I'm still a kid at heart. My favorite video game series had a new released today. I will be in front of my PlayStation for the next 2 months solid... Hmmm....
