The Pulse of the Hit Exchange Industry!
December 7th, 2006

One To Click On by Jon

Welcome to the new issue of Hit Exchange News!

December is upon us. The holidays are quickly approaching and the last thing on a lot of people's minds will be 'traffic exchanges' and online business. This is what a lot of companies usually tell you. The 'holiday slow down' as they call it. Here's something I have noticed in the past 7 years of online business.

There is no slow down, their is no 'summer stalling' or 'Christmas crawl'. In fact, I notice increases during all the times that people say there is supposed to be a slow down of business.

So how do you use this to your advantage? Simple, work your butt off. Now this does not mean to be the Grinch during the holidays, but just think what your competition may be doing...Most likely, nothing. Know this, and use it as a strategic advantage.

I will be promoting a lot during the upcoming weeks, mostly because I launched my brand new traffic exchange so it's important for me to stay active. But I can almost guarantee , some other new programs will not promote as much as I will be. I am using the 'slow down' to my advantage and you can too.

Have a great week and I hope you enjoy Hit Exchange News!

  • A few notes about Clicks Matrix. The first, I logged into my account this past week and found that all my sites were not rotating and had been placed on 'inactive' status. Be sure to check your sites and make sure they are active. As well, this program now does not seem to allow you to surf multiple browser tabs at once. If you surf multiple exchanges, the Clicks Matrix timer does not seem to go down. Looks like another reason to not use this once amazing traffic exchange.
  • Congratulations to Hit Pirate for celebrating it's 2nd anniversary this past week. This very well designed and managed traffic exchange continues to impress. Great job Captain Jack!
  • Do you happen to notice a lot of 'Stop Being A Victim' splash pages and banners in the exchanges? There is something to be said about massive promotions like this. This is what we call 'flooding the marketplace' and it has done an amazing job of branding this program. I saw some folks that actually made splash pages this week, complaining about how many times they see 'Stop Being A Victim'....That's effective advertising!
  • This Week's Splash Page Hall of Fame Entry is this page! How many times have you heard it while surfing? Does it grab your attention? Do you get 'frustrated' because you hear it so much? That means it did the job!

The HEN Top Ten results are based on traffic statistics (unique hits, traffic flow, hits delivered, traffic quality) and a touch of good old fashioned 'opinion'. The industry changes just like in the real world, so an exchange may not be on the list this week, but will be number 1 next week! Discuss this week's Top 10 list in the Net Marketing Forum!

Hey Jon, how come I Love Hits, Click Crazey and SWAT Traffic are never on the top 10 list? Since I own them, I feel it would be a conflict of interest to place it on any of my rankings. If you want to see how well they are performing each week, please check TestHoopla top 20 weekly ranking!

The 'Real Bad Advice' Syndrome

I just finished reading an update from a fair sized traffic exchange and I was shocked at some of the advice that was put forth in the update. It mentioned things like 'do not use splash pages to brand your name and picture' and even worse don't advertise yourself in the Top 10 / Top 40 traffic exchange lists.

If you are NOT branding your name and getting it known throughout the internet you are wasting your time and putting money in someone else's pocket. Be sure anything you do, especially with traffic exchanges, benefits you in some way or form. For example, if you are promoting GDI, make sure 'Joe Smith' is promoted just as much as GDI. Keep your name in front of people.

The other shocker was to avoid promoting in the bigger and better performing exchanges online. This made me very concerned for newer exchange users that would have read that and promoted their tail off in an exchange with 300 members. This is not proper time management for your advertising efforts. And is NOT effective. Here's a little tip that Mike Paetzold mentioned in one of his seminars recently...

In the established exchanges promote to build your brand, in newer exchanges promote to sustain your brand.

Essentially this means to keep your face / name in front of everyone around the industry. But with hundreds of new members joining the larger exchanges every week, you hit a larger market to build your business. But also be sure to keep it visible in the smaller exchanges to remind folks that you are still there.

This is advice that is proven to work. This is how I run my businesses, this is how I make my living online. It's not easy, and it's not 'silver spoon fed', but it works...if you work it.

Program Review - My Space

Sure it's filled with teenage puppy love, sure it's the biggest social networking site on the planet, sure it's very addicting, but is it effective for your business?

My Space is a social networking site that when properly used can not only grow your business but help brand your name in the internet business community. The key is to 'get friends' which could be seen as building your contact list.

The site has got a lot of cool features including blogs, bulletin boards and video / picture uploading. Remember, even though My Space is filled with the younger generation, it's still a massive program that attracts a lot of serious business people.

Check out my link, and add me as your 'Friend' and be sure to add this program to your marketing plans.

Overall Rating: 5.0 Mouse Clicks (Rating out of 5.0)

Things That Make You Go...Hmmm? (A 'Different' Look at the Industry!)

  • The new tactic for text ads seems to be 'Click Here For 5 Credits'. Hmmm....
  • Has it really been over 7 years since I started online? Wow, I really need a social life... Hmmm....
  • Just a note to ILH users that report sites. Cat and I are deleting them as they are reported, but wow, there is a lot of these bad sites. Hmmm....
