The Pulse of the Hit Exchange Industry!
January 4th, 2007

One To Click On by Jon

Welcome to the new issue of Hit Exchange News!

Ahhh the first Hit Exchange News of 2007. It's still so remarkable to me that this publication continues to grow and grow with each and every week that passes. Hey, it was told to me years ago who lousy the 'traffic exchanges' were and how much they will fail. Well 8 years later, I'm still clicking and surfing each and everyday and I expect HUGE things for the traffic exchange industry in the coming 12 months.

How can I be so sure? Call it a gut instinct I guess, but if you see the huge shift that is taking place across the 'other side of internet marketing', you will see that all things are pointing towards the exchanges.

We are the first line in the internet marketing field. When people look for free or lost cost advertising for their products / services, where do they come? With hundreds if not thousands of people coming online each day to look to build a business, a huge chunk of these folks come into the traffic exchanges. Here's some more food for thought...

I own two programs, and from these two exchanges over 80 to 100 new people join my businesses alone everyday. Everyday. Let me state that again, each and everyday up to 100 people get to know about I Love Hits and or SWAT Traffic. And I am just one guy, imagine the other traffic exchanges that exceed what I do...

Yes folks, it's the perfect time to be involved with the TE's. 2007 is going to once again, show the rest of the internet how powerful these programs can be when used properly. So with that, welcome to 2007 and I hope you have a prosperous new year!

Have a great week and enjoy Hit Exchange News!

The News

  • Dan Moses and Brett Phillips have recently launched their new free traffic exchange, 4 x 4 Hits. See, I knew you guys couldn't keep away from the 'free side' of things. The program looks great and I hope these guys can develop this into a powerhouse traffic exchange.
  • Aaron and Eva have been busy! Nexus Exchange has had a complete new re-design. As well, the traffic exchange has changed a lot of the ways it delivers traffic. Log in and check out the new and improved Nexus!
  • This is pretty cool news, one of the better 'e-zines' to come online in years is now a free subscription. The Nettle has been around for years but was always a paid subscription. Recently this was lifted and it's now free to join. One look and you'll see why they charged for it to begin with, it's got quality written all over it.
  • This Week's Splash Page Hall of Fame Entry is this page! I think the look of this is very clean but it always uses personal branding, as well as promoting the logos of the two companies as well. A nice splash, clean and to the point.

The HEN Top Ten results are based on traffic statistics (unique hits, traffic flow, hits delivered, traffic quality) and a touch of good old fashioned 'opinion'. The industry changes just like in the real world, so an exchange may not be on the list this week, but will be number 1 next week! Discuss this week's Top 10 list in the Net Marketing Forum!

Enjoy this week's list!

Hey Jon, how come I Love Hits, Click Crazey and SWAT Traffic are never on the top 10 list? Since I own them, I feel it would be a conflict of interest to place it on any of my rankings. If you want to see how well they are performing each week, please check TestHoopla top 20 weekly ranking!

Jon's Un-Official 'Best Of' List for 2006

Warning: I know most folks that are familiar with H.E.N. will recognize this statement...These are my opinions only. The following list is my opinions of the best and sometimes 'news worthy' traffic exchanges of the past 12 months. Enjoy it, I had a blast putting this together.

Best Traffic Exchange of 2006: TS 25 - Week after week, this program delivered the results. Yeah, Logiscape will never be known for their stunning customer support but you cannot deny the impact and results that this exchange delivers. The best and still champ in my opinion!

Best Traffic Flow: This is a tough one because like all things in this business, it varied from week to week. But for constantly always being able to deliver traffic, the award for best Flow of 2006 goes to Hit Safari.

Best Features: StartXChange without a shadow of a doubt. Tim Linden, the owner, constantly improves this traffic exchange with user friendly services, cool little features and he always seems to be promoting 'user activity'. One of the most unique scripts and fun traffic exchanges to surf.

Best Upgrade: Max Traffic Pro wins this award. Now it's hard to measure what makes the 'best upgrade' but MTP delivers on so many levels. It's affordable, it delivers and the traffic flow is very steady. Combined that with an owner that is always improving the program and you've got the recipe for some great return on your investment.

Most Fun To Surf: You mean other than the two I own? LOL Just kidding. This award goes to Mystical Maze. One of the original 'game surfs' the Maze is not only a great traffic exchange, but always keeps people wanting more with it's simple yet highly addictive 'maze game'.

Surfer of the Year: I have got to give credit to each and every person that has ever clicked 'next site' in any traffic exchange this past year but one name sticks out simply because he 'branded' himself before anyone even thought of the idea. And yes, Tony Tezak has officially retired, he was still a huge impact surfer this past year. So again, enjoy your retirement Tony. I hope everyone learned lots about promoting themselves first from your examples.

Owner(s) of the Year: Some many amazing folks in this business, such a tough decision. I know I'll catch some heat for this but I have to give it to two of my 'close associates'. Am I playing favorites? Maybe, but this is my opinion. Robert Puddy and Rich Taylor. These guys put together the Focus 4 Seminar series last year and guess what? The traffic exchange owners came out in droves! The people that attended the seminars got to learn first hand, what traffic exchanges were all about and for that reason, I don't think anyone else has done more for our industry than these two guys.

So there's my little list. Like I said, it was a lot of fun to put it together. I hoped you enjoyed it and all the best in 2007 to each and every traffic exchange surfer and owner!

Paul's For Thought

I wonder if you remember the days when it wasn't unusual to get 100+ signups a day from Traffic Exchange advertising? Or do you remember the days when PTP wasn't an acronym for Plague This PC? Or maybe, just maybe, you remember when banners guaranteed people would flock to your site?

You do? Well, you've been around longer than me then! Those days are long long gone, but Traffic Exchanges are still here and going strong. And guess what. So are banners!

I regularly see TE owners putting out offers for banner sales but I always ignored them. I wasn't interested, they don't work!

I recently became a TE owner myself and because we had a lot of space for extra banner ads I threw a load of my own banners into the system. After all, I wanted the surf flow up first and I'm not interested in selling credits and impressions yet. Weird thing is, I started getting signups. Seems these banner things do work after all!

My second major discovery is that I'm far from being the only surfer who ignores banners. Masses of us do, and I really mean masses! I discovered over 700,000 unassigned credits in just our two exchanges. Perhaps I'm not the only one who thought banners don't work!

So, before I started assigning my credits I also wondered which banners would be best to use. Sure, I could put standard banners out there, but wouldn't that be just like putting a standard affiliate page in an exchange?

We all know we should brand ourselves and use Splash pages in the exchanges, so why not do the same with banners?

Why not apply Jon's ACA principles of Attention, Curiosity and Action?

Why not Grab Attention with a logo or better still, your photo? I'm sure most owners would be happy for you to copy their graphics if you asked.

Why not Create Curiosity with a great headline, a rude statement, or a silly joke about dolphins. (shameless plug, sorry!)

Why not add a Call to Action? A 'click here' or whatever, although everyone knows to click on banners so the banner itself is a call to action really.

There are loads of places where you can easily create banners. Just do a google search. Hey, there are people within the Exchange Industry who will even make them for you!

So, are you tempted to check your banner stats next time you login to each of your exchanges? You may have thousands of credits you never ever used. Why not get those banners out there? Why not turn back time?

Program Review - The Traffic Exchange Industry

Funny thing to review huh? I think it's time to shine the mirror back at ourselves for the first 'review' of the year. O.k., the first thing, the rating. I give us a 2.5. The reason, we are half way there. We are doing a lot of good things, but still there is so much more room for improvement.

The first thing I noticed, we are still only promoting splash pages about 30% of the time. 3 out of every 10 sites I see online, are splash pages. The rest, generic affiliate pages. This needs to change. Creative designs need to be the focus of 2007 for splash pages.

We are still being lumped together with the auto surf exchanges. I'm still very much anti-auto surfing. I have never liked it, especially with the events of auto surf investing. We need to be promoted as manual surf exchanging. We are traffic exchanges, not get rich quick schemes, scams or fly by nights.

The biggest pet peeve I have about this industry is the 'slot machine' way of doing things and the absolute absence of sticking with a game plan. Stop jumping from program to program and develop your business. Let it develop, stick with it and take baby steps towards success. I think that is a huge problem online, people want the whole farm but aren't willing to milk the cows. Take small steps towards your goals!

That being said, we are doing a lot of things very well. The push towards 'promoting you' is more evident than ever. Personal branding is becoming common place. And lots more folks are being very creative with their surfing and designs. So let's keep moving forward, 2007 is going to be fun!

Overall Rating: 2.5 Mouse Clicks (Rating out of 5.0)
