The Pulse of the Hit Exchange Industry!
January 11th, 2007

One To Click On by Jon

Welcome to the new issue of Hit Exchange News!

Are we experiencing a slow down? Traffic across the board has been lower these past few weeks by about 10-20%. I first thought it was because of the holiday season and it may very well be, however I have another theory.

I think a lot of the 'cheaters' are starting to get annoyed with the restrictions and the constant improvement of the scripts. Yes folks, I believe that the traffic exchange owners are doing a stand up job at managing their exchanges and that the would be scammers and schemers are starting to get the picture, we're not going to take their garbage anymore.

Why do I feel this way rather than saying the industry is slowing down across the board? I can only speak for myself, but credit sales, upgrades and other purchases continue to increase each and everyday. So the people we WANT to be surfing and becoming active are in fact coming forward. While the dead wood is quickly floating away.

Does this mean cheating will end? Does this mean the scams will be long gone? Absolutely not, and I'm not naive enough for a second to think this has stopped completely. However folks are starting to come around, now comes the hard part for the exchanges. Continue the growth while promoting user activity. This will be the major push that I would love to see in 2007...

Have a great week and enjoy Hit Exchange News!

The News

  • Remember True View Traffic? Well the owners of this unique traffic exchange have delivered us perhaps another gem in the rough. Magnify Traffic was launched this past week and essentially does what I think more exchanges will focus on this year, reward user activity. This is a very cool new exchange that is very easy to surf and use. Hopefully it will grow into a very solid addition to the industry.
  • Link Crews is getting a redesign. It looks like the popular exchange will be getting a complete face lift in the next few weeks as well as a brand new logo. Should be interesting to see if it can continue to deliver like it did for the second half of 2006.
  • Hit Safari is back after about a week offline. Server troubles, storms and lots of headaches caused this popular exchange quite a bit of downtime. It's back and stronger than ever now.
  • This Week's Splash Page Hall of Fame Entry is this page! Pedro, the owner of this page, is one of the best new splash page designers I have seen online in quite sometime. Quick loading, great colors, very clean look.

The HEN Top Ten results are based on traffic statistics (unique hits, traffic flow, hits delivered, traffic quality) and a touch of good old fashioned 'opinion'. The industry changes just like in the real world, so an exchange may not be on the list this week, but will be number 1 next week! Discuss this week's Top 10 list in the Net Marketing Forum!

Hey Jon, how come I Love Hits, Click Crazey and SWAT Traffic are never on the top 10 list? Since I own them, I feel it would be a conflict of interest to place it on any of my rankings. If you want to see how well they are performing each week, please check TestHoopla top 20 weekly ranking!

Becoming Part Of The Community

As many of you may have read in past issues of Hit Exchange News, I follow a theory that I came up with called Traffic Exchange Brand Awareness. The general idea behind this is to keep your name / program in front of people in the exchanges for the long run. To look at results on a month by month basis rather than day by day.

This is accomplished of course by keeping your site rotation in the exchanges, but how else can it be done? By becoming a vocal and active member of the traffic exchange community! This means to not only keep your site around for all to see, but to use your real name when coming to online seminars, online forums and tele conferences. This is a trick that not everyone will feel comfortable with, and that's fine, but you can have that extra step by providing people with your name. It's a trust issue and this is so important online.

Like I mentioned, coming to the online forums helps tremendously. Sure, it's good to sit back and soak up all the information, but voicing an opinion and continuing to be a voice in the industry will help. Online seminars too, I can remember almost each and every member who has attended my seminars during the past 3 months, simply because they use a real name and come each and every week.

Building your online presence in the traffic exchanges is more than just 'clicking'. It takes time. It takes effort but is well worth it in the long run.

Traffic Exchanges & Your Logo

So you have a logo but are you getting the most from it? You hear everyone say branding is the key and damn it they are right but still people pass up the best branding tool available.

I'm talking here about banners in Traffic Exchanges, I have used them for ages and yet still all three of my exchanges regularly run out of banners to display. Its not just my exchanges either, Visit any Traffic Exchange that has banners even the big ones and you can still see lines of text everywhere saying things like "70c CPM banner displays above"

If its not the text advertising the banners its the lonely little menu button where you can convert credits into banners. Why do they get forgotten when nearly every exchange even gives you a bunch of banners to promote.

This is a subject I have never really understood why it is probably the most cost effective form of advertising yet it still gets forgotten about. Check out the conversion rate at some exchanges (you can get up to 70 banner displays for the same number of credits as 1 page display)

Some of you will recognize my most successful banner the horses of Traffic At The Races and boy did that brand my exchange. It even got a mention in NMF about how people were getting fed up of seeing the horses over and over and I achieved this by simply spending little cash amounts at each exchange and converting all my credits to banner displays.

Don't let this tip slip and head over to your favorite exchanges and buy some banner displays, even get a banner made with your logo on if you do not have one and see how they work as a branding tool.

Don't be put off by the banners do not work anymore rumour.

Program Review - 4 X 4 Hits

Dan Moses owns a free traffic exchange? I couldn't believe it myself when I saw it a few weeks ago but yes it's true. Mr. Pro-Only Exchange himself has himself a great looking new traffic exchange which is...Get ready for this...Free to join...

I'm just having fun because Dan has done a great job at branding himself as THE authority when it comes to pro-only exchanges. The question of whether or not this new free program will work, so far, has been yes. The exchange uses the popular LJ Script as it's back end, but Dan and his partner / co-owner Brett Phillips have done a great job at designing and making this program look and feel good.

The traffic flow is very steady and members are joining everyday. If it keeps up, we may see a very solid addition to the industry. The major problem with most pro-only exchange is the slow down they experience after the initial rush is done, will 4 x 4 follow suit? Or will it continue to grow like it has the past few weeks...
