It was a very eventful week as the first traffic exchange from TELaunchForumla.com was launched. Traffic Witch has a roaring launch and a very successful one at that. Almost 2000 members and it’s only been online for 48 hours.

Things are looking very good for this program and I wanted to congratulate Mr. Guido Nussbaum for his new program. Guido is a rare breed in the traffic exchange industry, here is a guy who knows marketing, has been involved in the ‘free giveaways’ for over a year and really made a name for himself outside of the traffic exchange industry.

What does this mean? This means brand new ideas, new promotion strategies and most important, new members from outside of the exchanges. This is a very cool time to be involved in Traffic Witch as every member I have talked too is absolutely thrilled with the results.

When Your Competition Is Sleeping…

I don’t believe a lot of the urban myths in this industry. I don’t believe in the ’summer slow down’ because most of my best ‘business’ is done during the summer months. I don’t believe there is some slow down as the holidays approach.

In fact, when everyone is telling me there is about to be a slow down, i find myself working even harder and getting better results. Case in point, this weekend in America. As many of you know, it’s Thanksgiving and that means lots of food, lots of family and lots of fun. But guess what it also means, lots of people behind their computer, working hard on their home business.

Here is the perfect chance for you to stick out from your competition and really get in front of lots of surfers. While a lot of people won’t touch their computer, their will be some very determined individuals, working extra hard. This is a wonderful group of people. And I don’t know about you, but I sure would love some determined folks in my downlines and my businesses.

So get out there, surf the traffic exchanges, network with others, attend some seminars and do the things, a big chunk of the competition won’t be doing this weekend. Enjoy the turkey and enjoy your time off, but remember the huge potential your business has this weekend…

Being that it’s not a new program but a few months old, really gets you noticing it. Seems weird, in an industry that loves ‘fresh and new’ that we are continuing to discuss a program that was launched months ago.

The reason? Results.

We talk about results each and every day in the training rooms I hang out in, whether it’s SWAT Traffic’s or Affiliate Funnel’s. The fact is, while results are a very important topic, rarely do we see emphasis on results, instead we focus on the ‘new’.

Can you blame us though? I mean, anything flashy and hyped will be the talk of the town until something newer is released. It’s part of the business, just like the internet and technology, our industry is always moving forward.

So while it’s great to jump on new programs and get excited about them, maybe we should remember some of the best performing programs out there, that are NOT new, and have paved the way for the new ones to be launched in the first place.

Why We Need Your Votes…

So the top ranked traffic exchanges at Affiliate Funnel are being voted on each and every week and we are now well into week 2 of our little re-launch of the Surfer’s Choice. It’s a very exciting time at A.F. and for good reason.

You see, we are firm believers in ‘giving the members a voice’. We feel this is the ultimate way to gauge how well a traffic exchange is performing on an industry scale because the more people who vote for a traffic exchange, the happier the surfers are at said program. Point being, the more votes, the higher the votes, the better the traffic exchange is in it’s member’s eyes.

But it’s only two weeks into this thing…It’s very important that we continue the momentum and keep people voting. It’s got to turn into a habit if it’s going to succeed. Like what Hit Safari did this week? Give them a 10. Didn’t like an e-mail I sent to SWAT Traffic, give it a 5. Can’t stand a program, give it a 1. The main idea though, is to vote. And vote daily.

Sure, we’ve already heard the remarks about people ‘begging for votes’ but I don’t buy it. I’m a member of 99% of the traffic exchanges out there and I read EVERY email update and no where did I see people begging for votes. i saw owners asking for votes, and that’s what we want. We want people to get into the habit of voting and creating the ultimate top traffic exchange list on the net.

A few weeks ago, Soren Jordansen, Robert Puddy and myself were at the JV Alert seminar in Las Vegas. We did the standard ‘meet and greet’ with a lot of the industry professionals that were in attendance but one guy really took notice to the potential of traffic exchanges and this week, added traffic exchange specific splash pages to his affiliate tool box!

So…What’s Up Traffic Exchange Owners?

You know, I’ve been writing this little newsletter since 2003 and I ALWAYS find stuff to yap about each and every week. Some weeks, it’s a challenge though to find things that take place in the industry. It’s not that we aren’t growing and good things are happening, it’s just that well…Not many traffic exchanges are worth writing about….

Ooops that may get some people mad at me…

Sounds mean? Maybe, but the point is, give me something to write about. How about a new feature? How about developing a new way to surf? How about changing the layout or your exchange and doing something completely different? It just doesn’t happen, but I guarantee you, I’ll get at least 5 e-mails a day telling me about the previous days contest winners.

My past two articles in the previous issues of H.E.N., I ranted about the lack of training, sales or links to click on in the updates but this week I’m taking it even further. This doesn’t mean the traffic exchanges need to re-invent the wheel on a weekly basis, but you know, once a month, come up with something new and really give the industry something to talk about.

Imagine that…Every traffic exchange out there started to develop a new feature every month. Imagine how excited the members would be? Imagine how far we would progress?

Wishful thinking? Maybe, but hopefully this little article / rant gets some owners looking at ways to improve their business. Let’s try to come up with one new feature a month….Just to see what would happen…

What’s interesting to note, after all the press and publicity splash and squeeze page advertising has gotten over the years, still only about 30% of traffic exchange advertisers use these kind of pages.

Pitch Me or Leave Me Alone part 2

After last week’s little rant I thought maybe, just maybe, owners would get the message and stop emailing their members about who won what contest the previous day.

Boy was I wrong…

My inbox was flooded this week with useless notifications about who won the surfing contest from the previous day along with absolutely NO pitch, NO log in links, and No useful tips or tricks at all.

Guess what they are doing?

I spoke to dozens of surfers in the SWAT Traffic seminar room this week that are fed up. They are now not even reading traffic exchange updates, simply deleting them when they come in. So now even when there is a critical notice like the one I got from Hit Safari this week, chances are the majority of users have deleted the email without reading it.

This needs to change! Again, it’s fine to give people notices of past winners, that’s not the problem. The problem is not giving your members value in the email. Imagine if with every ‘notice’ there was a short blurb about using splash pages…Or list building…Or proper traffic exchange surfing. Imagine…

Give some reasons for people to read your emails and I’m sorry, but it’s not enough to tell them the 5 people who clicked 2500 sites the day before.

It’s rare that I really embrace new IM products and push them but I do feel that Michael’s new course is something every marketer (and specifically traffic exchange surfer) should learn. It has become THE challenge to the popular IM myth that the ‘money is in the list’…

Creepy huh?

Something we have been hearing for years is now getting challenged and rightfully so. This course is wonderful for all new traffic exchange surfers and experienced ones alike. Remember, if you are using the traffic exchanges properly you should be branding your name and building your list…ONLY!

Get More Buyers teaches you what to do with that list once you have branded your name AND started to build your list. It’s one of those programs that you should really check out, but like so many times before only a handful will act on it…

- Hit Safari changed scripts this week. This is really strange because I thought the program was on a great script and it was working really well, but it has switched to an LJ environment (I Love Hits, Traffic At The Races, etc). This is not a bad thing, just strange because I did not think Hit Safari was broke or needed a new script. But it’s still trucking along an done of the best programs on the net.

- Logiscape released their new blog and support forum for all their family of traffic exchanges this past week. Not sure how active it will be, but given the resources this company has, there should be some high quality content on there very soon.

- StartXchange broke a little record this week. Get ready for this one. Tim Linden’s juggernaut program had over 318,000 page views in a single day earlier this week. That is just insane. I guess you can’t argue the fact that people love to surf there…Great stuff man!

I got kind of passionate this past week in Net Marketing Forum about emails I have been receiving of late from various traffic exchanges. I’ll go on a rant here about it but if you want to see the full blown ‘tiff’ about it, you can check out the thread about it at NMF.

Basically, some exchange owners are getting on my nerves. Why? Because of the absolute useless emails I have been getting about who won the surf competition for the previous day. Let me explain, I have no problem at all with you sending me a note with previous winners, in fact I think it’s a great idea…Here’s my beef though.

Sell me something! Get me to click something. Ask me to do something. I don’t care who won the contest, I don’t even care if I won, I want a special offer. i want to see something you are recommending. PITCH ME PLEASE!

Weird way of thinking huh? Not really if you are in the marketing arena and are trying to make a living from your traffic exchange. Very simple, we are in a sales environment, so sell me something. Doesn’t mean I’m going to buy every time, but I like the lessons. I enjoy seeing how people ’sell’, I consider it part of my education in this business. I like nothing more than to see emails from Soren Jordansen and seeing how the guy is selling on a daily basis.

This is a sales business, whether people admit it or not. There is some science to selling and I do everything I can to get better at it each and every day. So please don’t tell me how many surfers surfed 2500 page views yesterday UNLESS you tell me I can get a 25% discount on purchased credits by logging in now.

Hmmm…Maybe some owners should think about ‘Get More Buyers‘ are in investment in their business….Maybe…

There is so much power to attending these live events, I cannot even begin to describe how much they can help your business. If you ever get a chance, make sure you attend an event, it truly is a life changing experience.

This was seminar number 9 for me and I plan on going to a whole lot more. What’s even better, is the attention we got, Robert Puddy, Soren Jordansen and myself when we all said in unison…

“Yes, we all own traffic exchanges and YES they really do work!”

It was a shock for many internet marketing professionals who have been force fed to rely on ‘article marketing’, PPC marketing and other highly effective yet demanding forms on online advertising. You see, we have something that the rest of the internet wants…And we have limitless supply of traffic.

The trick to using this limitless supply though, is leveraging the traffic. DON’T USE generic affiliate pages, use a squeeze page that grabs your viewers attention. DON’T SURF for hours on end without a direct benefit for you, branding, list building, etc. This is critical!

As time goes by, expect massive things soon from our attendance in Las Vegas, we’ve got some very cool stuff in store for the traffic exchanges. More bang for your click, guaranteed!

- I Love Hits hit a milestone last week and I’m so honored to announce that we have hit the 100,000 member mark! Special note for everyone that loves to put ILH and me down, this does NOT mean 100,000 active members, this means 100,000 users have joined the system since it started. Still, I consider ILH to be a medium sized exchange with plenty of growth still in it, with 400-500 new members joinign every week, the future looks very bright for the old work horse!

- StartXchange continues to knock down competition left and right by adding it’s new ‘Surf N chat’ feature. While not a new feature to the traffic exchange industry as a whole, it’s new to StartXchange and cements them as one of the most active exchanges in the net.

If you haven’t been living under a rock, then you have heard of the wonderful world of Twitter. This is the first 2.0 service that I really embraced, I mean sure I used blogs and Facebook but Twitter had something I just fell in love with from the start.

Think of it like text messaging on the web. Short, simple messages that let your ‘Twitter list’ know what you are up to. What’s even more exciting about Twitter is the neat little applications that have been created because of it.

Soren Jordansen’s Tweet My Blog in a wonderful little tool that lets you notify the ‘Twitter’ world about a new post on your blog. And that’s just one tool, there are hundreds of these cool little programs to help you get out there more in the world of the ‘Tweeps’.

Want even more proof that you should be involved with Twitter, aWeber just added a Twitter service that let’s your email list know when you have sent a message via aWeber itself. Wow. That’s right, this thing just got released and should be massive for both aWeber and your Twitter account.

Your network is the key!

I hope I can really pound this message home because with out my network, there’s a very good chance I would still be flipping pizzas for a living and dreaming about working online, not doing it. Why is your network so important? Simple, because they become your allies in this crazy world of internet business.

They will help you launch new products, they will offer advice and input on anything you plan to do, you can get feedback from your circle of friends, and best of all you can grow together. So how do ‘grow’ your network. Here are a few tips;

1 - Attend the Wednesday night seminar at SWAT Traffic. Simply put, this is where the magic happens each and every week.

2 - Attend the Saturday afternoon sessions at Affiliate Funnel. These are some of the most informative training events online today.

3 - Come and take part in the discussions at Net Marketing Forum. You can learn a lot from this place but more importantly, you get your name seen daily by hundreds of online professionals.

and 4 - Be sure to ‘promote you’ in anything you do online. Use services like Splash Page Maker to build splash pages to rotate in the traffic exchanges that brand your name and your business. Get your face and name in front of as many people as you can using splash pages!

And a little bonus tip, do not be afraid to ask questions. If you have a dedicated upline sponsor in a traffic exchange, ask them a question. This is a great way to form a relationship with them and it grows your network.

Be seen and be heard, it’s the best decision you can do for your business.

Here’s Some Numbers To Think About

Lots of talk this week about membership numbers of different traffic exchanges and what is important to know when choosing a program to surf. I’ve heard everything from ‘we need unique traffic’ to ‘how many people are surfing at once’ for determining how effective a traffic exchange is.

Bull!

Here are the only two numbers that matter in my opinion.

1 - How many new members have been brought into the system every week. Why is this important? Simple, because when you know how many new sets of eye balls are going to see your site you can know for sure that your advertising is attracting FRESH new potential customers.

Yes, it’s not as flashy as ‘total members surfing right now’ or ‘the unique traffic percentage is…’ but it tells you how well a traffic exchange is growing and more importantly, how many new people you get to advertise to ON TOP of who is already in the system.

2 - Results. Plain and simple, how many many views did it take me to get a sign up, a new lead, a sale, a referral. That’s it. I want results, I’m not in the traffic exchanges for the benefit of my health, because truthfully it’s gone down since I started surfing a decade ago *lol*

I want results and so should you. All these team surfing, clock hunting, helmets, all of that…It’s all to move credits, but does it produce results? Sure, traffic flow means an active program and when you have active members, good things tend to happen. But instead of flash and dash, give me sign ups please.

This little ‘rant’ of mine may get some people angry and I wrote it to get some passion from you. Far too many times we are mislead to think what is important in these traffic exchanges and what is not. Am I right? Maybe. All I can speak on is what I observe. And for 10 years now, those two points above have kept me going…

What was so important? Why so much passion in the topic?

It had to do with the future of traffic exchanges and if we were hurting our own business model for surfers and owners alike. You see, now more than ever, new traffic exchanges that come online have great owners behind it. In the past, new exchanges would fizzle out because of the lack of management behind the program. Nowadays, the exchanges are run by top notch people.

Is this a problem? No, it’s great. But here’s what happens when you have so many good choices. You have lots of ways traffic exchanges try to keep you surfing. From ‘Super Surfing’ to giveaways, to surfing contests to ‘clocks’…More traffic exchanges try to entice you to keep surfing their program.

And rightfully so. A traffic exchange that succeeds has good traffic flow and with good flow comes profit for the owner. However, the question was asked…Are we shooting ourselves in the foot? Is too many contests hurting our sites? I would love to get readers feedback on this, are you flooded with surfing specials, daily contests, etc. Is it getting too much for the surfer? Or is it great, is it exactly what exchanges need to keep more active? Let’s hear your opinions Hit Exchange News, please post your comments below!

The News

- Traffic Gold Rush had a great launch yesterday and I’m sure the owner, Paul Conway is grinning from ear to ear. Like I mentioned above, and for the past few years, a traffic exchange success depends on the owner. With Paul Conway, you are getting one of the best. Expect big things from this new program, especially with the help of Paul Kinder and Steve Ayling in the background. This is a winner!

- Logiscape announced the upcoming release of it’s own support forum and blog this past week. Release dates are not set in stone but I would assume they will come online soon. The company seems to be concentrating much more on web 2.0 which was the main idea behind Traffic Era. What was missing though, was Hit Pulse in their updates, they only named Era, TS25 and Pods as having their own section in the forums.

- Congratulations to Smiley Traffic for having it’s first live seminar this past weekend. It was a great experience and Vern did a great job. It was wonderful to meet the guy finally after all the history we have, and he was very professional the entire night. Great stuff sir!

How To Take ‘It’ To The Next Level?

This isn’t going to be an article about some long lost special technique that no one has ever heard of before. It’s not the ‘magic button’ to whisk you away to internet glory. It’s not about how to finally rid yourself of the 9 to 5 blues. It is however, something you should plan for and something you should seriously consider once your business is starting to gain some ground.

Thank goodness for Cat Heiter!

Cat is a unique story. I met her when we were both involved in MPAM (a very old downline builder) and we got along great since day one. Back then, I had just taken the reigns at I Love Hits and was doing all the support and customer service myself. I did enjoy it, but it took a lot of my time up. Cat, was trying to get her own business off the ground and started to offer her services to various traffic exchanges.

What was her service? Simple, she would be the customer support and service admin for different programs. She was doing it at MPAM, so she branched out into the traffic exchange industry. She offered to handle I Love Hits and I was at cross road…

I mean, I Love Hits was my baby. It was my bread and butter and something I care about deeply. I was VERY scared to let go and give control of the inner workings of it to Cat. Not that I didn’t trust Cat, I just felt like I had to be involved in the day to day operations of I Love Hits.

But, I let go…

Cat took over the service side of I Love Hits and here’s some numbers to think about. When I was running the complete operation of I Love Hits, we generated about 20-30 new members a day. Since Cat came on board, we are now averaging about 50-70. That’s double. Why? I could concentrate on promoting and building I Love Hits, and Cat could take care of the service side of things.

It was perfect. So much so, that she now does support for every one of my programs, from SWAT Traffic to Affiliate Funnel. Again, this is not a magic button, this is not an instant riches program. This is something you will need to consider once your business starts to take off.

One of the people responsible for me to finally ‘let go’ was Mike Paetzold. Mike and me hang out daily in the SWAT Traffic training room and for years he was telling me to let go and concentrate on building the programs around me. Mike even took it one step further this week and wrote one of the most important e-books I have ever read called Easily Outsource.

This is one of those books that will never be a best seller, simply because only a handful of people will ‘get it’. It took me a few years to ‘get it’ but Mike kicked me in the rear a few times and his new e-book is something any serious entrepreneur should keep handy.

Outsourcing is a golden nugget. It’s the different between 50 new people joining your mailing list a day compared to 20. It allows you much more freedom and above all else, allows you to build YOUR business and bring new people into your circle of influence.

Robert Puddy and myself have been creating this ‘traffic exchange business in a box’ for over a month now with one goal and one goal only, to find the best new traffic exchange owners on the net.

I have been doing this since 2004 and needed to switch things up a bit, so today I’m absolutely thrilled to announce TE Launch Formula to the traffic exchange community.

- Promo Lotto has a new owner! Steve Ayling has joined Ryan Hogan to partner up and run this new and very exciting traffic exchange. I really enjoy Promo Lotto, it’s one of the better new exchanges to be launched in recent memory. And knowing Steve, this thing is about to get a whole lot better.

- SWAT Traffic’s re-launch last week was a wonderful experience and very successful. We had a little contest running this past week to ‘Name The Rottie’, and thanks to the members we have got a name. Our little pooch is now called ‘P.A.W.S. The SWAT Dog’. Congratulations to Jerry Iannucci for winning the contest and thanks to everyone who took part!

Traffic Exchanges Don’t Work? Don’t Use Them.

This drives me absolutely nuts. There was a new program that launched this past week that had a bit of support around the traffic exchange industry and was shown a lot while surfing. It claimed to be the next level in online promotion and the best way to get traffic to your site.

O.K., that’s fine but here’s the kicker. On the ad copy they essentially said ‘don’t use traffic exchanges, but it’s a lot of effort for minimal results’. Really? So how come this program is getting mention in this newsletter if traffic exchanges aren’t effective. Yeah, I’m writing about it, but not for positive reasons.

If you are going to make bold statements on your ad copy about how ineffective traffic exchanges are, put your money where your mouth is and make your affiliate pages a frame breaker. Problem solved. You won’t get all that ‘nasty ineffective’ traffic exchange traffic.

You know what I think? I think they KNOW traffic exchanges work and are using scare tactics in their ad copy. Nothing wrong with that, however a few years ago I may have went on a tirade about ’saving the industry’ *lol*. Folks, it’s very simple. These programs work. They have worked for a decade. And companies will use every tactic they can to try to get surfers into their business model.

Know the marketing, know why they do what they do! I still say, traffic exchange users are the best people on the net, and other companies know this…

The big push at SWAT Traffic is the Captain member upgrades. Last night we had an absolute packed house and I anticipate an even bigger turn out next week. These events are the bread and butter of the program and I’m so honored to see everyone talk so high about them.

I use a lot of terms like ‘must attend events’ and I really do mean it. This business I have learned is all about who you know. The people you align yourself with are the folks that will help you in growing your business. Sure, you need to take the bull by the horns and get things done, but your network is that ’secret weapon’. They are the gems in this business and in my case, they all hang out in the SWAT Traffic seminar room!

The Perfect Traffic Exchange Surfer

If you have ever surfed a traffic exchange, chances are you have heard of Tony Tezak, one of the most active and successful traffic exchange users to ever pick up a mouse. It got me thinking, because of Tony’s success at surfing the exchanges, what would be my idea of the perfect surfer? What kind of personality is required to do really well at traffic exchange advertising? What does that person need to ‘do’ to become successful?

The perfect surfer must be dedicated. They must not get discouraged if they see their numbers drop, and they must not get too excited if they see their numbers soar. ‘Steady as she goes’ seems to be the best way to go. Have a goal and work towards it. If you want to hit 1,000 hits a day, work on a plan and stay focused until your reach that number.

The perfect surfer must NOT rely on their downline. Sure, it’s great to get the residual traffic that traffic exchanges provide, but they must not be afraid to get in front of their computer and click for an hour or so each day. Not only does this help the industry as a whole, it helps the clicker know what works for promoting different pages and what does not.

The perfect surfer must spend money. Yes, folks we are all trying to run some kind of business, and while the traffic exchanges are free to use, buying traffic or upgrading in various exchanges is something everyone should look at. I mean, let’s be real, your fingers do start to get tired after a session on I Love Hits, invest wisely in a traffic exchange that gives you the best bang for your buck and then get back to clicking the next day!

The perfect surfer must understand how traffic exchanges work. The more they understand the more they become effective promoters. They know that you won’t be able to sign up any referrals on a copy cat affiliate site that reads like an e-book, they know how to create smart and catchy squeeze / splash pages.

And finally the perfect surfer must have fun while surfing. Yes, it takes a lot of time and yes it becomes ‘boring’ but they are excited because they know with each and every click, that could mean a new lead and or a referral. If you do not have a love for what you are doing, you should not be doing it. This is why this could be the GREATEST industry to get involved in, because I don’t know about you, but I love these programs!

Are you a perfect surfer? I know I’m always working at becoming one myself! =)
