So a few weeks ago Tim Linden, Austin Hallock, John Guanzon and myself had this crazy idea…How do we benefit from the concept of team downline building and bring a simple system into the market that allows members to build their downlines easily and creates massive networking opportunities…

We’ve seen the massive success of programs like Ocean Swell, TE Profits and other easy to use programs and to be honest we’re really trying to build something special at both Traffic Wave and TE Toolbox, so we bumped heads together and came up with TE Teams.

There was no JV launch, no special announcements, it just got released (and it made quite a few people scratch their head). This is a surfer-centric system where teams are created, team owners are born and complete control is given to the individual team. It’s got a total of 7 programs in it to join, so this isn’t going to build your downlines in a huge number of programs…Remember, this system was created to be a kick start, a smart start into building downlines mostly in Traffic Wave and TE Toolbox.

The idea is there, the concept and belief in the team building way is in place, now we just need to go to town with it. A team can be set up and managed as the team members and owner sees fit. Want to have a structured downline? No problem, you can. Want to make it a straight downline builder, no complicated math, you can. Want to just have a place where you can hang out with your networking associates? You can do that here too.

It’s a new twist on a age old concept, good things happen when we work together. So which TE Team will you be on?

- The Traffic Exchange Wonder Kid, Mike Gartner launched something VERY cool that I have not done a good enough job talking about this week (don’t worry Mike, I’ll get it out there). It’s called List Getting and it’s an all in one list building system complete with rebrandable downloads ot give your list of subscribers and the plug and play simplicity of this system is second to none. The ‘Lazy Way’ Usually Sucks

Seeing T.E. Teams get released about 36 hours ago has really woke me up to a big problem facing the traffic exchange industry. Now before some people come to my house to lynch me, please allow me some time to explain my point here…When people hear that ‘a team’ will build their downlines, they usually get very lazy, don’t promote themselves, give up and then cuss the entire traffic exchange industry claiming they don’t work.

One look at the sheer size of one of the teams in T.E. Teams and you can see a big chunk of those people are gravitating towards it simply because of the names in the team and the thought they they can sit back and get results from doing nothing themselves.

Now if you are new to this industry and are struggling to see results, the idea and concept behind T.E. Teams is perfect for you. It’s true that team work helps everyone but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t pull your own weight.

I know, this is nothing new in the traffic exchanges as for years we have seen the latest greatest money makers come and go but it’s a cycle I think we can all do without. Here’s the scoop, if you want to take advantage of something like T.E. Teams, get ready to put in effort. If you are going to get into list building? Get ready to not have an exciting life for a few months while you learn the ropes. If you want to get into traffic exchange brand awareness, you better have your patience in check.

Fact is, it does not matter what side of the industry you are on, this stuff takes effort and a lot of hard work. There are great tools and services out there that help you along the way but here it is folks, and some people may not like me after I say this but you are going to have to….Work for it.

I’m going to town these days at I Love Hits. Last year was a real bad year for all my traffic exchanges as I got very ‘lazy’ and well way too comfortable. I thought I was at the top of my game and no one could ever hurt my business.

I was so wrong.

So wrong in fact that at the beginning of this year I made a conscious effort to roll up my sleeves and turn everything around. It all had to start with my baby though, it all started with I Love Hits. The best thing that has happened to my traffic exchange was that I brought Austin Hallock on board. This guy has literally saved my life in more ways then I can mention, he’s a great guy and one of the best programmers I have ever met.

Also people like Tim Linden, John Guanzon and the entire family at TE Live have been such an amazing group of people…They all helped turn I Love Hits around with the release of Bracket Surfing so this week I needed to ‘celebrate’ by doing something a little different for the prize….Check out the video to see what I mean…

The News

- Huge news this past week as the guys at KRM have done it again with the purchase and ‘re-launch’ of Traffic Dealer. And if I know Paul Kinder and Tim Rash, they’ve already got plans to grow this exchange outside of the industry like no one else could do. Jump in the game, this could be quite the ride!

- TE Browser has been getting a lot of press lately. From being the first ever program NOT owned by Logiscape to be promoted by them, to the recent security issues addressed by Traffic Hoopla, it’s amazing to see how well this program may or may not do for it’s upcoming launch. Stay tuned…

- So the guys at TE Live have been bumping heads together and we think we may have one of the coolest new programs ever to be seen on the traffic exchanges…And we’re almost ready to launch it. This Week At Traffic Exchange Live, And Tim’s Blog…

Wow! That’s what I think when I look back at the past 48 hours or so at both Traffic Exchange Live and Tim Linden’s blog. To say ‘we struck a nerve’ would be an understatement and I just wanted to go over a few things about the Ocean Swell team and it’s creator Rusty Shelton…

First off, Rusty is brilliant. I mean the man has created this ‘movement’ and very popular Traffic Wave downline builder by using two simple tools. A rotator and an autoresponder. Remember all the whining I’ve been doing about being creative, well this guy is creative plus some…I applaud his vision and his team atmosphere.

The problem I had with how things were set up were the promises. The wording on the squeeze pages I saw were that some people were guaranteed a downline in as little as 1.8 days and the main focus of this Ocean Swell team seemed to be the money side of Traffic Wave, not the benefits of list building.

Now I understand there are different ways to make money with a program like Traffic Wave and that’s cool. I just know how powerful list building can be and how important a tool like Traffic Wave can be for anyone’s marketing.

All in all, Ocean Swell is a pretty cool idea. If it was worded a bit differently to encourage the USE of the autoresponder first, the affiliate program second and that there was no ‘guarantees’ I think this thing could be bigger than it is now. People love the idea of downline building, heck I love the idea of building huge downlines, I just don’t want to see something this innovative go the way of randomizers and doublers.

So I salute Rusty and the entire Ocean Swell team for doing something new, unique and very simple. Innovation doesn’t need to be programming masterpiece, it just needs to get people thinking differently.

In this week’s Deep Thoughts, I really get emotional in my post. Some folks are going to take it the wrong way, some folks will agree with me but please understand this…

Everything I write about, talk about, teach about, surf about…All this is from the heart. I have been in love with traffic exchanges since day one and Hit Exchange News has always been my release. Instead of keeping thoughts all bottled up, I write (passionately) every week about these programs.

When something is good in this industry, I am glowing. Sounds cheesy I know, but nothing makes me happier than seeing programs like Traffic Exchange Solutions, T.E. Toolbox, Thumb Vu (just to name a few) get launched and supported. It’s good for the industry when quality programs are seen by the masses.

And when something bad happens in the industry, I cringe. The whole cash for surfing thing, I know people may love it, but when I see this, I scratch my head. I always thought this way about exchanging traffic? When I see constant ‘commercial scripts’ get released with absolutely no innovation at all, I cringe even more.

I know I’m being critical. I know I may annoy some of you, but please remember. All this is from the heart, and not some commentary from someone without any interest at all in surfing. You would be blown away at the amount of people that claim they love traffic exchanges and support them but don’t surf a single page a week.

This is Hit Exchange News. This is traffic exchange commentary from the heart. We’re almost at issue 300 and I don’t plan on slowing down and changing how I write anytime soon.

We Don’t Need More Of This…

It’s not new, commercial traffic exchange scripts have been around since the beginning of this industry. And while we’re no longer in the days of 4 new traffic exchanges launching every day, we still see new programs launching on a weekly basis…

Here’s what I like and what I think we need to change. First, I love the business savvy of people. Program ownership is very empowering and something I encourage everyone to dive into. You will make so much more money online OWNING something rather than just promoting something. At least from my experience. So I do believe in it, and encourage it.

BUT!

I don’t think the world needs more ‘cookie cutter’ programs. We do not need another commercial script with nothing new to add to this business. I always teach in my seminars that the market for traffic exchange users is very profitable if you release a product catering to them, they don’t need another ’same old’ traffic exchange but they can use another ebook on how to get results, another training tutorial on proper squeeze page creation, etc…

I see it far too many times, people purchase a script and immediately think they are going to be in business. This takes THOUSANDS of dollars and months upon months of networking to launch a new traffic exchange properly.

Sure you may make a few bucks to start with but the real test comes a year down the road after the hype has died down. Is it still profitable? Is it growing everyday? Are your members talking about new features you are releasing?

I’m trying to scare you away, seems mean, but the truth of the matter is after a decade plus of doing this, there have been way more horror stories than successes when it comes to traffic exchange ownership. If you are going to launch one, PLEASE do something different. Create something that ADDS to our industry and gets everyone talking about it.

I don’t think there can ever be enough good traffic exchanges, I just think there are too many poorly managed ones…

After a few weeks of tweaking the best dang programmer in the traffic exchange industry Austin Hallock created something I am very proud of and a complete 180 degree turn from what you may be used to at I Love Hits…

It’s called ‘Bracket Surfing’ and it’s essentially head to head surf competitions between surfers on I Love Hits. Think of ‘team surfing’ but instead it’s individual efforts being put to the test between each other. To cap it off, you go up against a new opponent every day for the week, and the top surfers every day win great prizes, credits and extra goodies that you won’t see on any other traffic exchange…

Tim Linden wrote in his blog that this will make him surf more because it’s been so addicting and that’s exactly the reaction I’m trying to get with Bracket Surfing.

Give it a shot and let me know what you think. We’re only a few days into it and the feedback has been very good so far but I know it can be improved with your feedback!

When Need More Of This…

Tony Tezak’s Traffic Exchange Solutions was a huge success and this week Ryan Hogan’s Affiliate Jumpstart got a lot of attention. Even my little ‘Bracket Surfing’ mod at I Love Hits raised some eye brows…

This is the kind of news we need to happen in this industry and the kind of innovation that will help us grow and have a great 2010. I have been really trying to push the importance of ‘news’ not only so I have something to write about every week, but also to see this industry grow and prosper.

So this isn’t a rant this week, it’s more of a ‘pat on the back’ and encouragement for new marketers to stop thinking that you need to launch a new traffic exchange to get into the ownership side of things. There is HUGE potential in this industry for catering to the surfer. Both of those ebooks catered to the surfer, and my new feature could have been an entire new traffic exchange, instead I put in into an existing one.

We don’t need new traffic exchanges launched every week, but we do and SUPPORT new launches from quality products and services targeted to the traffic exchange industry.

There is a huge slice of the pie that savvy marketers like Tony and Ryan ’sold’ to these past few weeks. I hope you see how you can too cater to the traffic exchange surfer without the need of launching a new traffic exchange.

We need more products and services like this and I hope that you will be the next marketer to make it happen. And hey, it gives me something to write about too. Double bonus =)

So here’s a newsflash…Tony Tezak launched his Traffic Exchange Solutions ebook this past week…

O.K., it’s not a news flash because EVERYONE seemed to promote it and well, for very good reason. When you have done everything right like Tony has, it’s not rare to see this level of support for any of your projects!

That’s just one reason. For me, this is what I would consider the perfect traffic exchange companion because it tackles the main issues I see facing surfers these days…But it’s not limited to ‘today’ as this ebook I feel will be relevant in two years down the road…

But the real power of this ebook is the ‘complete’ affiliate package it provides for quick thinking surfers who ‘rebrand’ it and start to give it away to their own subscribers, referrals and down line team members. (I will go more into this in my Deep Thoughts article further down the page.)

- Not to be forgotten but the past two weeks have seen HUGE launches of Buckets of Banners and List Effects. It’s three for three it seems and so refreshing to see innovation and quality programs being released. 2010 is starting out to be a very good year in traffic exchange land!

Why You Need To Rebrand Certain eBooks…

With the launch of Tony Tezak’s Traffic Exchange Solutions this week, it brought some thought back in my mind of how important it is to rebrand certain ebooks and ‘keep them’ in your back pocket for huge payoffs down the road.

Why do I rebrand ebooks like Tony’s?

I think it was Russell Brunson who coined the term ‘affiliate landmines’. We plant these ‘landmines’ around the net. We give away rebranded ebooks, we add our referral links to splash pages, we fill out all the programs in certain downline builders, we basically put our mark in as many places around the net as possible and wait….

And maybe we wait for months…

But then something amazing happens. You check your inbox and you have a referral notification here, you get a commission notice there and you may scratch your head and ask yourself ‘where did this come from’?

It was from the affiliate landmine. It was potentially from a rebranded copy of Traffic Exchange Solutions you gave to your new down line member a few months ago. How powerful can this be? It’s huge!

I get notifications daily from work I did months ago and the payoffs are huge. For example I gave away copies of IM Success Formula over a year ago and I still get notifications to this day of the work I did way back then.

Call it ’set it and forget it’ if you want, I call it smart marketing. And with Tony’s ebook promising to be the gold standard for years to come, this is something every traffic exchange user should be rebranding…

I was complaining about the lack of innovation last week and I’ve got to say, it’s weeks like this that make me smile and know we are always moving forward…

Jon Atwood and Frank Salinas’ recent release of List Effects is a wonderful example of people taking an idea or two that are old and creating something new and exciting with them.

List Effects may look like another list builder on the surface but it’s so much more and has the potential to be quite an addition to the ‘free traffic’ generation side of the internet.

I applaud the vision and innovative nature of this endeavor and hope these guys go to town with this new program. Things like this and owners like these need to be supported. It’s not the same old same old that will bring us to the future, it’s new things. New programs with a new twist on a formula that has been working for a decade…

The Blog Post of the Week…

Tim Linden always comes up with gems on his blog, and this week I absolutely loved his latest ‘5 Reasons Why A Traffic Exchange Dies’ article.

I loved it so much that I had to keep the discussion going by giving my two cents to it in Hit Exchange News.

I agreed with all of Tim’s points but something I wanted to add is that we may have added to the problem of programs dying simply because of the myth that these things are easy to own and operate…

Opening a new traffic exchange is hard work, very hard work but the hardest part of owning a T.E. is the maintenance and growth after the launch phase is done. This is what kills a lot of traffic exchanges because the owner thinks after the launch phase it’s smooth sailing. Not so…

So what you see are dozens upon dozens of new exchanges that look like they have potential but never have the legs to keep going in the marathon. That’s what owning a traffic exchange is, it’s a marathon. And now, there is rarely a gold medal at the end of the race, it’s usually more fees, bigger hosting, new site designs and programming features…

Crazy isn’t it? This isn’t to say new traffic exchanges can’t be successful, one look at Thumb Vu launched earlier this year and you’ll see how it’s done but examples like this are far and few in between.

My advice? Thinking of launching a new program, remember 95% of new traffic exchanges never make a dime and if they do, their life span isn’t always guaranteed past a year or two.

Don’t be a statistic, program ownership is a great thing but how about you cater to the traffic exchange market in other ways…Bring out an innovative traffic exchange related program or service…That’s golden!

The Traffic Exchange Revolving Door…

It’s a theory of mine that hasn’t done me wrong yet, and that is to be seen in the traffic exchanges are much in 6 months than you are today. I call it ‘Traffic Exchange Brand Awareness’ or T.E.B.A. for short…

Ask anyone who has made any money or found success in the traffic exchanges and they’ll tell you, you need to be seen as much as possible, for as long as possible, whenever possible. Simple enough yet 99.9% of the traffic exchange surfers still do not practice this.

No, you do not need $100 a week budget to advertise your site. You need elbow grease, some must have tools and the end goal in mind.

However, it’s not as ‘easy’ as it sounds…

I cannot tell you how many times I have heard and seen traffic exchange surfers and owners come online, go all out and put their everything into their business and then simply give up a few months later.

Why did they give up? Could be any reason, but I think the biggest one is that they do not see the results or get excited enough about the potential their efforts could generate.

But here’s the kicker…They always come back!

Yes, whether it’s a month, 6 months or a year later, these people seem to always return and give it another go. They are filled with desire and the will to succeed but one has to ask if they would have been further ahead if they stuck with it…

Case in point, don’t give up if you do not see results right away. Learn what you may be doing wrong. Ask questions. Get answers. Make sure you KNOW where you are advertising and what you are advertising.

You will see results, you WILL get excited about this business…Don’t forget that and don’t give up =)

Are you a member of I Love Hits?

If so, I need your help this week and I promised I will make this as easy as possible. Basically I’m changing email services for the ENTIRE traffic exchange and I’m attempting to move everyone over to the new list.

I’m sitting in front of my computer today, preparing another issue of Hit Exchange News and I’ve got to admit something, this week it’s been VERY tough to find things to write about.

Usually I can find tidbits here and there, but during the past 7 days the traffic exchange industry has been, well, dull.

There’s usually some kind of promotion, some new feature, something of note. This week, it was very tough to find news. And I’m not pointing fingers at all, just trying to give us all a kick in the rear end.

We need innovation. We need stuff that will keep us surfing, keep us talking, keep us focused. Where are they? Where are the owners who are stepping up and creating something to rave about in this industry. We need more of them!

And don’t get me wrong, I think I’m writing this to remind myself that I can’t be ‘comfortable’ with what my programs are. I need to keep them growing, keep them in front of people. This is industry wide, not one or two owners, all of us.

Are you a surfer? Demand to see changes. Make your ideas known. Let the owners know what you want to see. If you are an owner, get in touch with your members and ask their opinions.

We all benefit when we see innovation, the industry grows and more people get excited about the potential these programs can bring. Let’s get busy!

S.W.A.P. Clicking…Oh No, Not Another Acronym…

I wrote a little post on my blog at I Love Hits this week and called it ‘It’s Time To Surf With A Purpose’. Ahhh yes, another acronym to throw at you…

This one though, makes a lot of sense. Not saying my other ‘gems’ don’t but well, let me know what you think. Here’s my thoughts on it…We are at an all time high when it comes to slot machine marketing and surfers are really starting to feel the pinch. It’s time to have your goals laid out in writing so that you KNOW why you spend time surfing the traffic exchanges.

Oh wait, some of you may just be surfing to earn credits..Why? What are you going to do with those credits? Are you trying to build your list? Are you sending traffic to a campaign to brand your new business? Are you trying your hand at affiliate marketing? Looking for leads to your online MLM?

The point of ‘S.W.A.P. Clicking’ is to have your goal in mind every single time you match a symbol on a surf bar. KNOW what you are shooting for. This practice may seem trivial but it’s not, it’s an important exercise in keeping your focus. Hey there is lots of cool stuff to see when you are surfing, S.W.A.P. Clicking is there to keep your focus. Remember every single time you click, you are on your way to good things…

Funny example I can share, when I first got started in the traffic exchanges I was promoting a program called MPAM. It was an all-in-one marketing system similar to what I now co-own at Affiliate Funnel but when MPAM got started, my entire ‘purpose’ was to bring new people into my downline…

Every single ‘click’ I made I always asked myself, would this click transform into someone joining my team? Would this next page I viewed be returned for someone joining my MPAM team and earning me some cash? It was very exciting to never know which click would do the trick but every single time I did surf, I asked myself that question. Talk about focus!

That’s what we can do each and every time we click…Surf with a purpose. Have that goal in mind, keep focused and never forget why you are using the traffic exchanges. It may not be the same reason I am, but it’s YOUR reason and YOUR purpose!

It’s been almost a month now since our last issue of H.E.N. and I do apologize so much for the lack of content.

I’ve had quite the ‘interesting’ start to the decade, I’m not going to go over all of it but just wanted to thank everyone for their prayers and thoughts.

I’m back, very focused on the year ahead and look forward to meeting the new faces and the new leaders that will shape this industry in the new decade ahead.

Traffic exchanges, yes folks, are still here. They still grow. They still are talked about, used, purchased, surfed, linked to and yet I don’t feel they have reached their full potential…

The new year brought on the exciting addition of Thumb Vu to the industry. I love when something creative is added to the traffic exchanges and ‘The Vu’ is something new and refreshing.

Only a few days in and it’s been a wonderful success story with a bright future ahead. That’s the ‘message’ I think this year should be about…Creativity. Let’s take these programs further than they have been before. Push the envelop if you will. Get some creative juices flowing and see where it takes us…

So for 2010 let’s get our heads together and bring out some new features, new concepts and new growth strategies to make this year the best ever in the T.E. industry. I look forward to seeing what YOU have in store =)

- Speaking of creativity, Kym Robinson and Randy Ritter have come up with an amazing new mod for their traffic exchanges and are planning on offering it to the masses for a fee. What’s the mod? 2009 – My Year In Review

I’ll be honest, this past year I got VERY lazy and my heart wasn’t in the right place for most of the year. Personally, I had a ton of offline stuff I was dealing with and while it’s no excuse it did hurt my businesses. However, the birth of TE Live near the end of 2009 helped salvage a lot and I’m VERY excited for the future of the internet’s first daily T.E. talk show…

Here’s some other notables events over the past 12 months…(Disclaimer: Yes Lynn, I know I had a few of these flip flopped in your blog but this is what I meant to say LOL)

Traffic Exchange of the Year – StartXchange. Tim Linden has grown his traffic exchange into one of the most loyal memberships on the internet today and for good reason. StartXchange rocks. Features, contests, blogs, forums, surfing chat, team surfing…You name it, this place has got it. Combined with Mr. Linden’s dedication to his craft, this exchange really showed the world what CAN be done when you put your surfers first…Always!

Traffic Exchange Owner of the Year – Tony Tezak. Is there anyone else you could give this too? Maybe but Tony embodied everything I try to teach and talk about in Hit Exchange News, Affiliate Funnel and TE Live. He took years, developed his PERSONAL brand. Started to build his network. His lists. And then launched (with the help of the KRM team) arguably the most successful upstarts this industry has ever seen in Tezak Traffic Power. Amazing work sir, here’s to an even bigger and better 2010!

The ‘pitch’ on this new traffic exchange was the introduction of commissions to a Logiscape program. I just do not know why they couldn’t add it to Traffic Era which in my opinion is one of the best traffic exchanges in history. THAT program was a game changer and maybe because these guys launch such stellar stuff we expect everything they do to be gold. Not saying Hit Silo isn’t solid, it is, but there could have been so much more here.

Wish I Had That Idea First Award – CB Pirate. Oh wow, this thing rocked! From the moment Soren told me about this product I knew it would be ideal for the traffic exchanges. A ‘push button’ product that did the selling, all you had to do was advertise the pre-made squeeze pages…Months after it’s launch it still generated hundreds of dollars a week in commissions for my business. Amazing stuff and I wish I had that idea first…

The ‘Thank God 2009 Is Over Award’ – Cash for surfing. Wow am I ever glad to get out from that mess. I know some people still may go ga-ga over surfing for pennies but I lost MAJOR focus when I caught the cash for surfing craze and it almost destroyed the industry. Ya I said it. Wanna make money for surfing? There are so many more effective ways…
