Issue 216 - Hover Surfing, Is It The Next Big Thing?

Author: The T.E. Guy

Good things happen when like minded people get together. Today marked the end and the beginning of the Fast Flipper Fortnight promotion held by the good folks at Traffic Splash and Fast Easy Traffic. For the past two weeks, traffic exchanges from around the world have combined to create the largest JV promotion ever in traffic exchange history.

What’s even more exciting is the launch of the MAYhem which started today. Basically after giving away over 400,000 free traffic exchange credits across 20 programs, the owners are now giving away monthly upgrades, yearly upgrades and thousands of extra credits too. Talk about ‘massive’!

It gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling to see everyone working together like this. It has translated into huge activity boosts but more importantly, given the surfer even more ‘bang’ for their click. The Mayhem started today, so be sure to support the traffic exchange involved in the giveaway and enjoy the promotion!

The News

- Now this is a really cool new traffic exchange tool! IntelliBanners is a brand new creation from Josh Abbott. This thing is essentially a rotator for your banners. So instead of adding a new banner in each of your traffic exchange accounts, put the banner in here and then copy the code in all your exchanges. Want to change a banner, change it in IntelliBanners and presto, job done!

- S.W.A.T. Traffic’s seminar has a new day! We are having our weekly Captain Member Training Seminars every Wednesday night now at 8pm Eastern. Last night was amazing! We had dozens of people pop by for a great chit chat about all things traffic exchanges. Get the inside edge and be sure to stop by next Wednesday.

- Dan Moses announced this week that Mark Brown is the new co-owner of Gone Clicking. The original co-owner is no longer at the helm and we will see how well this new combination of Mark and Dan can advance this one time very active program.

- Congratulations to ‘Sharon.’ for winning last week’s copy of Hits, Clicks and Misses. Want to win your own copy of the best selling traffic exchange book on Amazon.com (actually, it’s the only published book about T.E.’s on the planet), simply post a comment about this week’s issue of HEN!

- Splash Page Hall of Fame - Are you kidding me? This has got to be THE best traffic exchange splash page I have seen in a long long long time. Well done TrafficSplash!. Note: Why do I focus on splash pages every week? Simple, you MUST be using them in the traffic exchanges to get results. Get a custom made splash page by clicking here!

1. Traffic Splash
2. Traffic Swarm
3. StartXChange
4. Dragon Surf
5. Easy Hits 4 U
6. Traffic Bunnies
7. Royal Surf

Question: Hey Jon, how come I Love Hits, SWAT Traffic and Click Crazey are never on the top 10 list? Since I own them, I feel it would be a conflict of interest to place it on any of my rankings. (But we all know how great they are anyways lol)

Deep Thoughts - Jon’s Weekly Rambling

Is hover surfing the next big thing in the traffic exchanges?

This brand new concept was created by Jennifer Herold and John Guanzon about 6 months ago but just recently got released in the form of New Way 2 Surf. I will admit, when i first saw it, I was skeptical at best. However, this new form of traffic exchange surfing seems to be taking off.

How so? New Way was followed by another traffic exchange that adopted the technology and this week alone, Generalan Traffic Empire decided to embrace the hover surfing way of things. What’s more is that there is rumblings of a new traffic exchange being launched in a few days that not only adopted the hover surfing technology bit actually calls itself Hover Surf, or something of the sorts.

Hey, I have no problem at all with people taking other people’s ideas as it has been happening in this industry since day one. What I do hope for, is that these other owners give credit to John and Jennifer for creating it. It’s a very simple task and I hope it’s done.

Why? Respect. If you use someone’s idea or concept, just give them proper credit. It doesn’t mean you have to throw them a party or promote their businesses for life, just a simple courtesy. I myself love to let people know where I get some of my ideas from. In fact, most of everything I do is from the books I read and the teachings of my favorite authors, Jeffrey Gitomer, Seth Godin and Mark Joyner.

It’s a really good habit to get into, and as for hover surfing, let’s see where it takes us. If the surfers like it, I’m sure we’ll see more programs adopting it in the future. Great job Jen and John, you guys may have created something very good for this business.

Things That Make You Go Hmmm…

- So my laptop just decided to not turn on for me this morning. Combine that with the fact that Hot Conference doesn’t seem to work on my Vista computer and I’m out of the loop now…

- Traffic Era is saying they are delivering over 1 million page views per day. Sounds great, now let’s get more results from the program and we’ll have one of the best ever in the industry.

- I’m starting to get the hang of this Web 2.0 stuff…Heck, I even joined Twitter this week and managed not to break it!

Hover surfing is an interesting turn of events to say the least. Jen and John have definitely come up with something unique.

As for JV events and Surf Rewards, no one seems to be able to touch Paul Kinder. I really appreciate the extra effort that Paul and his team put into their marketing and creating something effective and different.

I have tried “hover surfing” and really like it. I belong to “Lords of Traffic” and according to their website promotions, THEY are the ones who started this innovation. I guess everyone is not as honorable when it comes to giving credit where it is due. So I will give my thanks to Ms. Herold and Mr. Guanzon for their wonderful invention. I think many websites will pop up in the very near future adopting this new trend.

Hey Jon! Appreciate the mention and kind words today. :)

HUGELY awesome point there Jon. It’s SOOOO important to acknowledge where you are graabbing your ideas from - especially if you really are basically ‘improving’ an idea you saw. It’s just common courtesy.

I like to, sometimes not mention it massively - but just sneak in a mention or two when you can, even if it’s for related products, or whatever.

    Cindy

P.S. Some bunny te is also giving away a full LIFETIME upgrade in the MAYhem promo…

Thanks for the kind words Jon, much appreciated.

And thanks Mike, I love to see how many are following on the Giveaway trend I started last Summer then expanded into joint Giveaways for my birthday last November. It’s great for surfers to get more rewards for their efforts.

I beg to differ a bit though - Cindy’s Funuary was a great joint promo - absolutely superb I thought, great twist on the theme. Cindy above all others is the one who keeps coming up with original stuff and forcing me to do more and more too. Mayhem would never have been this big if Cindy hadn’t “upped the ante” with Funuary. She’s not stealing my “crown” too easily LOL

  7. Posted by Paul Kinder 16th May, 2008 at 1:02 am

Oh, I’m still quite sceptical about hover surfing myself.

Starting to dabble and test a little more though. I personally prefer to click, for sure.

  8. Posted by Cindy Battye 16th May, 2008 at 4:35 am

Yeah - sorry to say it, but I really don’t like the hover surf. It’s SO easy to implement, so it’s not that we don’t know how to do it (well, not personally - but we can hire people who can do it.. lol). It’s just that I don’t like it.

Who knows though -maybe it will catch on… and we might all be forced to offer an alternate, click free surf bar… gosh, I hope not!!!

And thanks Paul.. lol - Funuary was a load of fun! Just getting my finishing touches done on June’s promo… so you had better get your running shoes on!!! LOL! Nothing like a bit of healthy competition - even if your MAYhem thing is taking Funuary to a WHOLE new level! It’s great to be a part of it all :o)

Great posts everyone. Yeah, I still prefer to ‘click’ myself too. And it seems like you do have the choice with some of these hover programs.

I think it’s another ‘option’ and will be so. That’s great, because any time we get talking about traffic exchanges, it’s a good thing.

    Keep the comments coming =)

  10. Posted by Paula Zuehlke 16th May, 2008 at 2:38 pm

Jon, you sound like John and Jennifer ‘invented’ the hover technique.. all they did was add an already established technique to their exchange… the same technique that Kjell came across and added to his exchange.

Yes.. it’s cool but no one from around here ‘invented’ it.

  11. Posted by The T.E. Guy 16th May, 2008 at 3:04 pm

    Thanks for the post Paula.

John and Jen were the first people to put it into a traffic exchange model. That’s what I mean by ‘inventing it’, not the technology, sorry if it came across that way.

What I mean is that they were the first to put it into the traffic exchange model.

  12. Posted by Robert Palmer 18th May, 2008 at 12:40 pm

I do like it, but I find that I get a much faster response from the surfbar by actually clicking on the icons. Nice to still have that choice. ;-)

Will it catch on or (be copied) more over?

    I believe it will…

It was a great idea to add this to a TE model as Jen and John did, but I would rather see the “other” TE’s coming up with their own original stuff.

    An example:

Ok, adding a free rotator, etc. is adding a useful feature, even though others have it. Good Idea!

Coming up with an Original idea like having “Optical Goggles” that would detect where my eye is looking… PRICELESS

  13. Posted by Jennifer Herold 19th May, 2008 at 4:13 pm

Thanks again Jon for your mention. Yes, hover technology has been around for ages and just to be clear… we certainly don’t claim to have invented it. It was just a neat feature we wanted to add to the TE (still giving the option to click). Our focus is more on creating other ways to help members build their businesses..such as our Ezine Ad module for list building. We have loads more features coming …

Thanks Jon O for everything and thanks all for your comments…we love the feedback.

    Jen

    Hey Jon,

Thanks for your continued constructive news on the industry.
Impressive splash page Paul… even more impressive numbers! We keep missing being a part of these great promotions you come up with. Guess Ill have to get in the SWAT Room more often… your contributions to the industry have been enormous and I tip my hat to you.

Jen and John, keep up the great work. I think if you continue to build NW2S with features that are geared towards the success of your members, it will continue to grow. I can tell the “hover” is going to be just one of those features.

I like it and it’s always good to see a new idea being put forward. Therfe are bound to be a few teething issues as surfers become acquainted, for example I sometimes miss the bonus credits by moving the cursor over the trigger button before actually reaching the bonus credits link.

But that apart I think it’s a great idea and hope it continues to do well with more exchanges offering the same or at least hover as an option.
