Hi Jon,

Traffic Heroes is back! The server for Traffic Heroes crashed the morning of Sept 3rd. The server has 2 hd's in a raid configuration and both hd's failed. Chris at Lotsmorehosting had to back up everything he could off of the servers and then the hd's were replaced, os reloaded, backup uploaded and restored.

For some unknown reason when restored it acted like it had no valid license. My admin panel was up but not the site. Then around 9PM last night Chris wrote to me and said "You are up and it was a quick fix. register_globals are turned off by default on a new php installation. Turned them on and you are in business!!"

But we were not in business. The home page came up but you couldn't go anywhere. Chris had gone to bed after being up for 44 straight hours fixing the problems. I got ahold of Paul Kinder when he woke up on the other side of the ocean and wrote Tim at Fast Easy Traffic. Paul was going to get a hold of Tim just as soon as he woke up and would call him as soon as he thought he should be up. 25 hours later I am still waiting to hear from Tim.

Luckily I got a hold of Chris at 4:15 this afternoon and Chris was able to fix the problem by fixing the template.inc file something that could have been done 15 hours earlier if Paul had got a hold of Tim or if Tim had read the support ticket I left at Fast Easy Traffic. Turned out to be a minor problem and better late then never we are fully back up! I just went through a extra 15 hours of panicking and emailing anybody and everybody trying to get it back online. Still am wondering if Tim is ok?

I do want to thank Paul Kinder for trying and for posting at NMF about the problems we were having.

First time Traffic Heroes has been offline in almost 2 years since we launched and I can't fought Chris or Lotsmorehosting because that can happen to any host and he hung in there fixing the problem.

Thanks!

Rich Morris

Max - BINGO! Exactly. I think you worded that perfectly. We are forgetting that the people that are the target market, are the newer surfers who don't know about Fire Fox or No Script. That is who I am trying to reach as well.

Justine - Sorry to hear you had troubles with I Love Hits. If you do send a support ticket into the system or drop me a line personally, we can fix all your email problems / IP concerns.

I had to leave I Love Hits because after IP
changed our e-mail address and I changed it at
I Love Hits I was no longer able to login at the site. Too bad for me,I guess, but all of the other traffic exchanges I'm a member of, allowed me to make the change with ease.

Seasoned surfers miss the point, the driving force of TE's and safelists.

The point is the masses of users are newbies. Most of thse newbies haven't yet heard of Firefox and "no script." They haven't yet turned sound off, I would venture to speculate that most don't yet multi-tab surf.

So who is the mass-market? The old seasoned surfer/marketer like those reading HEN, or???

Again, that's not thinking like a program owner. When you get past the 'most people surfing do this' bit you'll realize only a fraction use no script and only a fraction have it all muted.

Ask Steve Ayling how his numbers have doubled from adding sound to his pages. Thats what I want to see, what the real numbers are...Not just urban myths that everyone has no script. I didnt even know what no script was until Sunny released an ebook about it LOL

Dear Jon,
You are right these sites do stand out. However most people that are in a real biz and work hard at surfing use firefox of those 70% [my guess] surf with [NO SCRIPT]. Almost 100% surf multiple tabs. What that means is if they leave sound on they get several messages coming out of the speakers in an. If you turn off [NO SCRIPT] you get a lot of problem sites that disrupt surfing. I know people want surfers to turn off [NO SCRIPT] and turn on the speakers so they get the full effect of their ADs, but the truth is that is just as likely as most surfers turning off their popup blockers. The recommendation I have is to use HTML splashes no sound no video. I hope my logic is correct as since I moved to this MO mu sign up has gone up almost ten fold.
thanks,
warren

I love the challenge to do audio on splash pages. I have been thinking about this for about a month now and have been considering it. This challenge should give me the little extra motivation to actually set it up and do it right. I'll probably add in a couple of other little twists too if I can work them in right.

As for building a business, yes!!! That is what I am here for. I am constantly trying to find new and better ways to improve my business and expand my advertising base to make HelpHits and Major League Hits the best they can be.

I have started treating my exchanges more as their own separate businesses and started to see more results and improvement in the features I can provide for my members and a better income potential for myself.

I'm very glad to receive mentoring from you and the advice of some very savvy business people in the SWAT Room and elsewhere as I have grown in knowledge.

I will continue to rise to the challenge whenever I can.
