Issue 246 – How To ‘Olson Proof’ Your Business…

Author: Jon Olson

Ha ha ha…I have to laugh at myself. For anyone that has been reading Hit Exchange News over there years, they will understand my humor in this. For those that are new to H.E.N., first, welcome to the News, and second I absolutely pathetic when it comes to anything technical.

When someone asks me about FTP, I say huh? When another person asks me about clearing my cache and cookies I say Mrs. Christie? It’s borderline criminal, how little I know when it comes to techy stuff.

So when Jeff Dedrick released Instant Bonus Pages, my first reaction was ‘Oh no, I need to learn something new….” And that is why I’m laughing…Because I figured it all out LOL

Check out this cool page I created with it, I called it Jon Olson’s Bonus Downloads

Neat huh? I know, I know, I’m a techy whiz kid these days and I have to thank Jeff for creating something that makes me look so good *lol*

Folks, I’m not even going to get into the power of these bonus pages, just one look at my bonus page should give you a few ‘ah ha’ moments.

What I am going to stress though, is once again the traffic exchange industry’s favorite big name marketer has once again released an amazing program, that is so simple, it’s Olson-proof.

Thank you very much for being a reader of Hit Exchange News and have a wonderful week!

1. Traffic Splash
2. Dragon Surf
3. Traffic Bunnies
4. Hit Pirate
5. StartXChange
6. Max Traffic Pro
7. Traffic Swarm

Question: Hey Jon, how come I Love Hits, SWAT Traffic and Click Crazey are never on the top 10 list? Since I own them, I feel it would be a conflict of interest to place it on any of my rankings. (But we all know how great they are anyways lol)

Deep Thoughts – Jon’s Weekly Rambling

The Most Important Factor For Choosing A Traffic Exchange…

So you’ll hear it time and time again, you need to pick ‘XYZ’ traffic exchange because it’s got the best graphics. Or you need to choose it because it delivers the best results. Or because it delivers thousands of hits a week…

These are all valid points to help choose a traffic exchange to surf in, however there is something that can never be tracked, tested or studied…

Your gut instinct.

Seems strange, even though I track every single exchange I can, nothing helps me more in my business than that wonderful voice in my head. Sure, my instincts are formed by how well the exchange performs, how friendly the ownership is, how well the program is designed. All of this helps my gut feeling and it’s something to consider when you choose a program.

If it ‘feels right’ it more than likely is. If it seems sketchy, chances are the owner will disappear in 6 months. Sure, our feelings can be wrong but if you are testing, tracking, active in the program, chances are you will have a much better opinion of the program and will be able to tell if the ship is about to sink…

Trust your instincts, they rarely let you down =)

Things That Make You Go Hmmm…

- This week, I put in a ton of commission requests from various traffic exchanges…Only about 50% of them have paid out. I wonder where the rest of it is?

- Isn’t it amazing how many people seem to come and go and then come back in this business. Traffic exchanges, the great circle of internet marketing!

- Over 70 people attended last weekend’s seminar at Affiliate Funnel

    Hey Jon,
You have got to hand it to Jeff Dedrick he just made one awesome VERY EASY TO USE program that I know I will be using for a long time. I can build great looking pages in about 10 minutes when a new product comes out and best of all it promotes me as well.

You know I have been thinking about the commission issue too. I try to pay out my commissions to members within 24 hours of them reaching payout. They usually don’t even have to request it.

I’ve had a few exchanges where I still have yet to get paid after several requests or their customer support has not gotten back to me after several weeks of putting in a support ticket.

Man, talk about things that make you go HMM.. #4 this week out of nowhere :)
Glad it’s been tracking well for ya. As you say, HP has always kind of been flying under the radar. LOL

Hmmm, interesting about TE slow payment, non-payment after reasonable time. We all agree that payment should be prompt. What would a reasonable minimum pay-out amount be?

Thanks for the excellent work Jon! -Max-

Jeff keeps coming out with great stuff and over delivers.
The video from Paul Livingston was fantastic. I wonder if he’s done editing it ;-)
Keep up the good work Paul!

I haven’t cashed out commissions very often (I like to trade them for credits or upgrades); but I’ve always been paid in a timely manner. A couple of months ago one of my members wrote through the contact form to let us know that she requested payout; but I never received the request. That’s how we discovered a glitch in the script. We got a programmer to fix it and it should be working fine now. I wonder if this may have been the same cause of some of your unpaid commissions?

Paul Livingston’s video was absolutely hilarious! Nice to see the “real” side of a marketing video, LOL. Thanks for sharing that Jon. :)

About 70% of the traffic exchanges that pay commissions pay me within 72 hours of my requesting them. The other 28% take up to a month and several requests to get paid. The remaining 2% take longer then a month and give excuses after excuses.

When I owned Traffic Heroes, Jon you never had to ask for your commissions. As soon as you qualified for your commissions you were paid on the 15th of the month. The money wasn’t mine. It belonged to the person who earned the commission and I made sure everyone was paid on the 15th of the month that they met the min payout amount so we didn’t carry any debt.
I’m sure Brett it paying in a timely manner as well.

You really shouldn’t have to ask for thye commissions that you earned yet 90% of the exchanges that pay commissions do make you request them. Ever now and then I will come across a exchange I forgot about that paid commissions and I will have several hundred dollars built up. I can’t imagine carrying that much debt. They are usually the 2% that take over a month to pay and have a different excuse why they haven;’t paid you. They are apparently using your money to operate there exchange. I always maintained a separate account where all commissions and prize money automatically went to and Simon had a mod programmed to do a mass pay on the 15th of every month to members owed commissions. Free members were paid when they hit $20, Hero members were paid at $15 and Super Hero members were paid at $10. Yearly and Lifetime members could request payment as often as they wanted to $1 or higher and were always paid within 24 hours usually within minutes if I was awake.

Speaking of which I should go request some payments that I am owed!

    Yo Jon…

I know exactly what you mean about those voices. I get them too!

And thanks very much for mentioning my video. My views have more than doubled since the SWAT meeting…I might actually win this thing cuz of you guys!

Glad you liked it too Jackie, thanks! And no, Ted, I still haven’t figured out the editing thing :/

Thanks again Jon and everyone who watched my vid!

Jeff’s last couple of products have been key to my list building over the last few months, and now his latest has breathed new life into many pages throughout my web estate. I’m glad to see he’s become so well enamoured of the TE world.

Exciting start to 2009 indeed, long may it continue.

    Thank you Jon!

You hit the nail on the head about most important feeling about TEs.

You have to test, test & test some more to determine which TEs are doing the best for YOU. What might work for me may not have the same results for you but testing & gut instinct are imperative!

  12. Posted by The T.E. Guy 31st January, 2009 at 11:51 am

George – Bang on. Thats why all my Top 10 lists should be seen as opinion only. Sure I track and test my numbers, but it’s from promoting my stuff. Just like other lists are ranked because of what is being promoted for them. Use these lists, as guides, not the be all end all of TE results.

Oh yes, thank you everyone for the wonderful comments and posts. Great stuff!!!
