Got in on this late. SWAT turnaround? I have to chuckle because I thought Jon O. was the man! This should be a warning to people trying to run more than 1 exchange. Dang hard. But if there was one man who could do 2 exchanges right, it would have to be Jon O. Way to know how and when to take action!

Great feedback and comments everyone...As for that last question, I think people need to be creative. Mike Paetzold has a splash where he whispered and said 'hey you, ya you.....' it worked...It got me to stop for sure. I think the big thing is to do things that others arent. That means trying different methods of grabbing attention whether it be sound or images or even video...

The main problem with sound on web or Splash pages, but especially on Splash Pages is simply this. Jon and others keep preaching to us about using Splash Pages on TE's, but most if not all of us surf with multi-tab browsers like Chrome and Firefox. There's nothing more awful than the mash we get when different pages are sounding off at the same time, and the natural result is that we turn the speakers off to avoid that noise.

Bigger question is this....if we're supposed to use Spalsh Pages to grab attention in a very short time, how does the use of sound help that, especially when some of the video inserts are longer than the surf time on some pages?

Dear Jon,
Sound is a problem because the user of the sound does so very poorly. Second, the average surfer just shuts it off so he does not get blasted by this sound bashing. Users of sound missed the true use of sound. That is sound as a subliminal. A subliminal is sound just above the range of most surfers range of hearing that the surfer is effected by and does not know he is being so. But as sound used today has created the surfer surfs with sound off situation for almost all surfers like my self that listen to sound from an other source while surfing. So as a surfer, sound is not a problem for me because I just do not hear it. The only problem is that with 7 second timers sound just slows the load time of the page. This is even more so for videos. So in reality there should not be a problem here. If you are selling to a target market that is primarily mew people that have yet to come to the point of shutting off the sound then put sound on your site. If your target is not mew people then fast load makes sound not the friend of the marketer.
Thanks

Personally I don't like sound. Some pages has very low volume; others, very high. Some voices are pleasant; others, the contrary. I don't like very high-pitched voices. This is a problem existing also on the sound of TV sets. Turning off the volume control is a very easy path. A constant regulated volume should be nice for many of us.

Sad news about MPAM. While I didn't get my start there I was one of the original members and it saddens me to see such a fine program that pioneered downline building and influenced my Downline program I launched in 2002 http://web.archive.org/web/20021008171907/www.linksrus.net/pages/329290/index.htm

I love sound in splash pages. They are easily my best converting promotions. Just as in popups where if you don't like them you get a popup blocker with splash pages with sound all you have to do is mute the sound but the campaigns I've run prove that very few do that. The only thing better then sound is sound and video!

I do not mind sound, just along as it does not deafen me. Lots of time I have my headset on or speakers on. Sound on a splash is nice to break the boredom of silent.
Some people are also jealious, they think some one will make more than them.

Not sure why people bitch about something they have control of.

Just mute the damn volume!

It amazes me how people waste time bitching about things that are so trivial instead of taking that time to do something productive - LIKE GENERATING TRAFFIC!!!

Good luck to Mr. Russell on his future endeavors.
