Issue 289 – Launching A New Traffic Exchange? You May Want To Hold Off…
I was complaining about the lack of innovation last week and I’ve got to say, it’s weeks like this that make me smile and know we are always moving forward…
Jon Atwood and Frank Salinas’ recent release of List Effects is a wonderful example of people taking an idea or two that are old and creating something new and exciting with them.
List Effects may look like another list builder on the surface but it’s so much more and has the potential to be quite an addition to the ‘free traffic’ generation side of the internet.
I applaud the vision and innovative nature of this endeavor and hope these guys go to town with this new program. Things like this and owners like these need to be supported. It’s not the same old same old that will bring us to the future, it’s new things. New programs with a new twist on a formula that has been working for a decade…
Thank you very much for being a reader of Hit Exchange News and have a wonderful week!

The News
- Buckets of Banners had quite the successful launch and once again kudos to Mr. Steve Ayling for creating something new and innovative. Another example of taking an old idea and making something fresh and new with it. Great stuff man!
- Heard through the grapevine that Stephen Ayer, one of the pioneers of the traffic exchange industry, has sold his share of Traffic Roundup. I just wanted to thank Stephen for everything he has done during the past decade and wish him nothing but success in the future!
- Also, speaking of pioneers. I heard rumblings that Tony Tezak is one the verge of launching something BIG in a few days. I’ll be sure to let you know as soon as I can but this should be one of those ‘must join’ programs…Get ready because this is going to be fun =)
- Notice: Cast your vote today for your favorite traffic exchanges at Affiliate Funnel’s Surfer’s Choice ranker. This is YOUR voice and YOUR opinion on what traffic exchanges you feel are the best in the business. Be sure to vote every day and get your opinion heard!
- Splash Page Hall of Fame – How’s the for shock and awe! List Effects simply and effective splash page really gets people to ummmm, stop and read! Note: Why do I focus on splash pages every week? Simple, you MUST be using them in the traffic exchanges to get results. Get a custom made splash page by clicking here!

The Famous Hit Exchange News Top 10 (Disclaimer: These are my top performing exchanges for the past week. Alexa rankings and fancy numbers have nothing to do with how I rank my list. This is based on my results and my opinion, nothing more, nothing less.)
1. Traffic Splash
2. Traffic Witch
3. StartXChange
4. Thumb Vu
5. Hit Safari
6. Tezak Traffic Power
7. Dragon Surf
8. Traffic Era
9. Traffic Punk
10. Max Traffic Pro

Question: Hey Jon, how come I Love Hits and SWAT Traffic are never on the top 10 list? Since I own them, I feel it would be a conflict of interest to place it on any of my rankings. (But we all know how great they are anyways lol)

Deep Thoughts – Jon’s Weekly Ramblings
The Blog Post of the Week…
Tim Linden always comes up with gems on his blog, and this week I absolutely loved his latest ’5 Reasons Why A Traffic Exchange Dies’ article.
I loved it so much that I had to keep the discussion going by giving my two cents to it in Hit Exchange News.
I agreed with all of Tim’s points but something I wanted to add is that we may have added to the problem of programs dying simply because of the myth that these things are easy to own and operate…
Opening a new traffic exchange is hard work, very hard work but the hardest part of owning a T.E. is the maintenance and growth after the launch phase is done. This is what kills a lot of traffic exchanges because the owner thinks after the launch phase it’s smooth sailing. Not so…
So what you see are dozens upon dozens of new exchanges that look like they have potential but never have the legs to keep going in the marathon. That’s what owning a traffic exchange is, it’s a marathon. And now, there is rarely a gold medal at the end of the race, it’s usually more fees, bigger hosting, new site designs and programming features…
Crazy isn’t it? This isn’t to say new traffic exchanges can’t be successful, one look at Thumb Vu launched earlier this year and you’ll see how it’s done but examples like this are far and few in between.
My advice? Thinking of launching a new program, remember 95% of new traffic exchanges never make a dime and if they do, their life span isn’t always guaranteed past a year or two.
Don’t be a statistic, program ownership is a great thing but how about you cater to the traffic exchange market in other ways…Bring out an innovative traffic exchange related program or service…That’s golden!

List effects has been awesome so far 10 levels! I am only on my 3rd of right now but already my downline is busting out over 200! I love it! Great system unique and just brilliant was glad to take part in it.
Steve’s site has been producing some great results as well over at buckets of banners.
I do agree with Tim’s post 100% If your not going to take the time out to manage your traffic exchange effectively then shut her down. I really dislike it when I join a traffic exchange and find out all of my credits are eaten up in one day by mostly cheaters. OWNERS Take the time out to check your system and make sure things are running clean please! Or like Tim said shut it down. Its your image and your name on the traffic exchange it represents you. I would think you would want that image to be of success.
First thank you for your newsletter which I enjoy very much. Maybe it is because I am basically a, many years tryer, of “making money on the web” and failing badly up unitl now, where I perhaps am benefitting from my experiences. But still learning the vagararies of the industry. Now, for what it is worth, I joined List Effects gave my contact email address for confirmation, but never received it. I’ve tried to make somebody aware there but can’t reach their support to get a correction. Thanks CJ Brehme
List Effects was a very big launch with a great twist on the giveaway site.
And Buckets of Banners actually surprised me. I knew that banner advertising was not dead I get referrals daily from my banners. But that site actually has a very good click rate. Impressive Steve.
And traffic exchanges dying has been a topic popping up everywhere throughout the industry lately. But you and Tim nailed it on the head.
By the way great advertisement up at the top for Traffic Fugitive. (Hint, Hint)
I agree, that List Effects is an innovation, I have already seen great results just from mailing the membership.
I can’t wait until Tony launches his ****
It will be good!
Boy, you got that right about Tony’s thing, I’m about to die for it to hurry up and come out! It’s gonna be grrrrrrrrrrreat!
Great issue to-day Jon
CJ Brenme just write to Frank I got an instant reply but then he is a friend and I had an e-mail from him yesterday.
They are both Great Guys and they want everyone to succeed. I just contacted Frank because his e-mail was handy and I owe Jon a call and I thought I don’t have time.
How I agree it is the log slog after the launch that is the hard work.
Last Wednesday we launched our newest ad exchange Monster ads aimed at the under 25s we have done incredibley well in one week we have 502 really talented young people. Half way through the week we changed the site to an educational site. We have to educate these young people they are the next batch of good traders if they are shown the way. So I am going to need your help Jon because I thought I would start them all of on affiliate funnel and the piza plan.
I have saddled myself with doing all the teaching so everybody who does some teaching expect to hear from me.
Inonvation is what is needed all of the time. We will be putting in new scripts shortly on our top four exchanges we will have small TEs in them.
Yes we do know we are now in for the long slog on monster but the two of us like hard work and a challenge. It has been an incredible week. This is sure something different we did not plan.
Thanks for the comments everyone, great stuff!
Jean – Absolutely. Maybe send them to A.F. for the Saturday training, or if you want to SWAT Traffic.
Of course we’re around daily at TE Live too. Let me know.
Thanks for all the ciomments! Tuesday ought to be fun
Jon and Frank certainly have hit a home run with LE. Tow great guys to work with
Cheers!
Tony
Thanks for the kind words everyone!
If you have an issue getting confirmed @ ListEffects, just use the support link and one of us should be back in touch ASAP!
Jon
I upgraded to List Effects over 10 days ago for $197 and the additional $37 upgarde. I did not get my ads approved and the solo ad I sent showed 0 clicks. I contacted support and got no answer. I know Frank (who sold out) he tried contacting you with no response. Finally I had to file a complaint with Paypal and I doubt I will get a response.
