Major Change At ILoveHits & Other Goodies
A few years ago, there was a guy named Rich Taylor who was very active in the traffic exchange community. Not trying to get all sentimental and stuff but I do think Rich was a major reason that I became branded as a traffic exchange expert simply because he pushed me to find my niche and really excel at it.
Rich Taylor was a pioneer in this business and one of the first traffic exchange owners who used ‘themes’ with his businesses. Anyways, long story short we started a traffic exchange consultation gig together and one of the ideas we came up with was the 3:1 surf ratio. Surf ratios in the traffic exchanges have always been a hot topic and well, some people swear up and down that programs shouldn’t give any less than a 1:1 ratio while others have gone as low as 5:1.
The 3:1 surf ratio was adopted at every program I owned and was consulted on and for years and it’s been fantastic, it was a very healthy ratio for the program and savvy surfers really understood why we kept it at a 3:1. But in the time and era of the cash for surfing epidemic (and yes I think it’s the worst thing to happen to traffic exchanges in years) we need more ways to entice surfers to view sites WITHOUT relying on cash for surfing.
So I have made a pretty big change in the way I do business with my cornerstone traffic exchange I Love Hits.
I have raised the minimum surf ratio for Light Weight members from a 3:1 to a 2:1. So now for every 10 page views in I Love Hits, you receive 5 hits back instead of the old 9 page views for 3. Now a few things before I get the tomatoes thrown at me…
I have been monitoring the surfing at I Love Hits for quite a few months and we can mathematically sustain this ratio thanks in large part to Bracket Surfing. Raising a surf ratio is VERY hard to do when you have a balance to maintain in a program but today I’m going to give it a shot…
Let’s see how it goes. If traffic delivery plummets, I’ll have to bring it back to a 3:1. But something tells me, with the added bonus of Bracket Surfing and the vibrant community at I Love Hits, this will do nothing but increase surfing.
In other news with I Love Hits, I am in the process of adding IM Faceplate to our Profile Pages. This is to give members even more networking opportunities for themselves and their businesses. This will be up and running very soon.

Interesting move Jon
We’ll see how it goes…If it goes to hell in a hand basket, I’ll be the first to change it back. But I think with Bracket Surfing and this little idea of mine forming in my twisted mental LOL well….Here’s hoping…
Hi Mr. Olson, as an ordinary surfer i solute you for this change…
Surf ratio is the most important thing along with the surf timer and the traffic delivery for me to choose which traffic exchange to use for my advertising.
Be well,
Ivan Golemdzhiyski
Now that’s a good news, ILH was already a great program but with that move I believe you have pushed it another step above
You guys rock!
Thanks Ivan, thanks Genny. Much appreciated. I hope it does well. Should get more eye balls to sites =)
Jon, I really think you have done the right thing. I think it is a fact that surf for cash is here to stay so the quality sites like ILH must find ways to compete.
Yes you Rock and ILH Rocks…..
I know this will only make a Great Site into an even Greater one….
Brenda B
Thank you so much Brenda. You have been a huge supporter of I Love Hits and I appreciate everything you have helped me with. I hope this does work out for everyone.
Hi Jon
As a regular surfer of ILH I welcome the move. I can’t aee it as detrimental and I don’t expect that it will impact on bracket surfing too much – that is fun.
Regards
I think its an excellent move that will make ILH more popular. Brave but good. I like it
Kevin
Kinda of slackin on the TE’s because my computer is slow and I run out of virtual memory a cure for this buy new equipment. Raising the ratio will get me involved again…fewer sites to view more credits which means more branding opportunity for me thanks
Thanks all, love the support for this move. You are right Kevin, it may back fire but alas I need to shake things up a bit LOL
A good thing for free members yes everyone loves to see some extra results and yes I do think I love hits will do plenty fine at the new ratio. But I do feel a bit left out being an upgraded member lol
Hi Jon,
just FYI – I changed the surf ratio at Traffic Showdown about 2 weeks ago to 2;1 for free members and I also note that John has also at thumbvu.
Not sure about John but I can report that so far activity has increased without hurting the ‘bank’ so, so far so good.
Of course I am monitoring and keep my members updated on the progress of all my experiments on the Showdown Blog – I think as owners we can only do whatever we think we need to – to keep more members coming in and keep activity high so that we do our number one job well – which is to deliver traffic.
I will be interested to see what happens at ILH but Im sure it will be fine with your mass in numbers there.
Make sure you leave a post here in a couple of weeks to let me know your further thoughts on it.
But the way I see it – and my members too (from all feedback) It is better to have happy, active and interested members than a pile of credits in the admin bank.
The members are getting more bang for their click which means more views to their pages which means more signups and sales – so all good!
Kym Robinson – Woo-Hoo!
Jon:
Congratulations for this change. I hope there is no need to get back; on the contrary, maybe in time surf ratio can be increased even more. Personally I find 3:1 a little boring.
Thanks all….Sean don’t worry man , I have got something special lined up for upgraded members too. Real cool new features!
I love it Jon,I think the move is great. Yes it is a calculated risk, but I think with the amount of members there are at I Love Hits, You’ve Hit a Grand Slam.
