Stop What You Are Doing! Change Is Needed!
You know, I’ve been going through quite a change in the way I think about business, how I act in business and how I feel about business. The past few months have left me scratching my head and wondering how I ‘did it the wrong way’ for so many years.
I’ve divorced that old way of doing business for something much more effective and something that actually makes you feel good day in and day out….It’s called engaging!
Not sure if there is proper term for this, but how I think of it is this…Be yourself, put yourself out there and let people come to you. Simple really, I know some people hate the way I do business, but I know there are people that enjoy it. Most importantly for me, I feel good about getting up every morning, pouring some coffee and engage other traffic exchange surfers and enthusiasts.
This process takes time though and there is no ‘easy button’ for you to press. The time invested in COMMUNICATING with others in your industry is well worth it though. I generate loads of referrals, I make sales, I refer people to useful products…And I never have to pitch anyone.
When you engage people, great things happen. But it’s not something you can do overnight. So my advice today? Get out there, be seen, be unique and engage others in your industry. That means come to T.E. Live, go to Net Marketing Forum, make a unique splash page, ask questions in the seminars, surf I Love Hits and chat, browse some sites in Sweeva….
Be everywhere and engage other people. A few months from now, you will be scratching your head too and asking yourself why you didn’t start engaging even sooner.
P.S. Let’s start ENGAGING right now! We’re hosting a T.E. Townhall Meeting tonight at 7pm Eastern and the topic is just that..How To Engage Other Surfers And Get Results In The Traffic Exchanges! It all happens tonight, for free. Bring a friend or two and let’s get results!

Well said Jon
It is nice to hear someone tell it as it is I am fed up off the Crap that is being forced down people’s neck
I am new in this business, but I couldn’t agree more with this post. Many people may not like who I am, but if I am myself, I can live with that and I sleep better at night!
Keep up the great work Jon!
Shawn
Thanks Paul, Thanks Shawn.
Shawn – New is good man. It’s a new experience every day. bravo for doing what 99% of people don’t do…Comment =)
This is all so true, Jon. There are things happening for me all the time nowadays in all kinds of areas that would NOT be happening if I wasn’t out there in the public and hanging out all the time, and much like you said, I spend less time “selling” and “pitching” but I’m still getting referrals, sales, and commissions. My foundation definitely keeps growing and increasing and if I weren’t “out there” it just wouldn’t be happening.
I figure I probably don’t earn nearly as much as hardcore sellers but that’s okay with me. I figure I am building a better, more stable, and more sturdy long-time residual foundation that will last me indefinitely.
I still find it funny of companies even large ones that make it difficult to get in touch with them. My rule of thumb anymore is if you can’t reach the owner of the site then just stay away. Customer support and talking and communicating with your members or potential sign ups has to be done. If you can work with people and provide them that great experience they are going to remember you for taking the time out to do so.
It sounds so simple but still there are tons of people out there that just do not get it and do not provide it.
But on the side note of being yourself. BE YOURSELF you cant please everyone and if your trying to theres no reason for people to pay attention to you and hear your side of things. Be unique be YOU!
Lynn / Sean – Great points guys. Love the comments.
Networking and communicating is the lifeblood of any successful business. It will lead you to potential customers & help retain them,it will shorten your learning curve and create friendships and partnerships that may well last a lifetime.
One of the reasons I’m not further ahead in this business is because I failed to use my secret weapon – ME:-)
Not to be conceited, but in the off line world people wanted me around for some insane reason – lol.
In a nutshell, I’ve done better online when I am myself and deal with people directly.
Good post Jon!
Engagement!! Yes!! As someone who has managed a lot of social media accounts for clients before, engagement is absolutely #1 Key!! You see it every day more and more large corps are turning to social media because of the value of engagement!! I’m glad to see you starting to turn towards this model, Jon.
Yeah this business is about people. And when you get that, you really see the power of interacting with them every day, hanging out in TE Live, making blog comments, Surfing Sweeva….
It’s very powerful, it just takes effort.
Good post, Jon. I’ve mentioned in comments here before that I’m a big fan of the way you do things. Integrity is a quality that I hold in high regard; and it’s a quality you seem to project in your interactions with people at all levels of the TE community… from my perspective anyway. I hope you continue to set an example at this standard.
The buzz about you at the surfer end is all positive. That has to translate into good things for your business.
Best wishes always.
Great post Jon. I like the post when you’ve had your thinkin’ cap on.
And, Yes shame on me for not taking the time to “Engage” other in my field. This is going to change!
Keep up the great work!
Hey Olsen this is a great writing! Your right COMMUNICATING is the key! COMMUNICATING is the key to relationships, family, work place for promotions and also spiritual and so on.
The hard thing is getting surfers and marketers to communicate with us. If the word cash isn’t in the communication there is mostly likely no replies. I’m not trying to open up the surf cash cash issue either. Just telling the truth.
Have a bless day. Steve Perkins, Perkins Enteprise Inc.
Steve, Gary, Earl – Thank you gents. Much appreciated. Loved the feedback and I’m glad you guys enjoyed it!
We are often physically isolated when we work online (especially at 3am, lol) and we’ve all been treated like numbers by faceless corporations. People want to do business with people – it’s human nature. We all want to know there’s a real live person willing to help us out when we get stuck trying to figure out this marketing stuff, someone we know is down in the trenches with us. It’s now so easy to step out from the shadows and show we are trustworthy and approachable so why not flaunt the only truly original product we have – US!
Jacquie – Absolutely. One way to be unique in this business…Be ourselves =)
Love your post – somebody gets it!
