The Internet Marketing Lie
I’ve been in this business for a long long time. It’s approaching my 14th year in a couple of weeks and something that I have seen year after year after year is the ‘top down’ way of doing business. It’s controlled the internet marketing world and it’s made a FEW people rich and LOT trying to reach for the top. It’s the ‘Guru’ mentality, the ‘JV Launch’, the ‘Circle of Friends’….
Thank God for social marketing!
In this day and age, it’s been completely flipped where the ‘JV’ is no longer needed. The ‘Guru’ doesn’t have the power. And the ‘Circle of Friends’ has become a community, not an secret hand shake society. But wait Jon, that’s some pretty bold statements, why don’t you back it up…
This past weekend, TimTech hit two milestones and this is how powerful a community can be, rather than a ‘secret hand shake JV team’. AdKreator hit 25,000 members and ClickTrackProfit reached the 20,000 member milestone. Two solid, evergreen products that have helped generate over $60,000 in commissions this year alone…What makes this so important?
Both of these programs had NO JV launch. Actually, CTP upset quite a few program owners because we didn’t give them a JV account and it only paid 30% commissions which is a no-no in JV land. The MEMBERS though, decided they wanted to support both these programs and the community launched it! No JV team, no pre-launch, no top down method where it was ‘told’ to you that you need to join it!
What’s the point Jon?
You don’t need a JV team!
What you need is to be part of a community. A vibrant place on the internet that everyone is treated as equals. No secret back room meetings, just good folks, good times and progressive thinking.
It’s scaring the ‘Guru’s’ silly. And I love it. It’s an equal playing field and while some of the stuff that was effective still holds its own, nothing and I mean nothing is more powerful than a social community. And that’s exactly what the traffic exchanges are! The best social community on the internet!

Thanks Patrick, that’s just it. And that’s what makes them so mad…They don’t understand that when a community prospers it’s good for everyone…Not just a select few. And that’s what makes 2012 so important…It’s going to be about making EVERYONE money, not just a few people.

I tried using TEs years ago but everywhere I turned someone had their hand out trying to get into my pocket. I’m way too poor for that lol
I joined a site called ClickTrackProfit and was amazed at all the things I could do with it. I joined a few TEs and have been having a lot of fun and am making friends as I go.
The best part of it all is I have not spent one penny of my own money purchasing mandatory upgrades or anything else. I even managed to make a few dollars along the way
Traffic Exchanges have changed the way TimTech does things and I must say it is definitely a change for the best!!

I truely love this post. It’s a great wisdom. Do you think about the newbies, who wants to launch a site? The best method is a do a launch in the traffic exchanges and chatrooms in TE’s. There the TE community will do it’s best about the site. Am i right?

Internet marketing is what people make if it. In the past a few have made the most of it. Now alot more ppl are having their own go at it. I suspect that is some form of democracy emerging and the momentum of the ordinary individual is becoming ever stronger as ppl talk to each other more and help and learn from each other and make their own minds up on how to build an online business. The momentum will over the next 12 months take internet marketing in a direction which me may not quite predict but with so many good people on board now its going to be a fun ride

There is a lot to be gained by bucking conventional wisdom and methods. It can be risky, but that is what entrepreneurship is all about!
The true path to success revolves around delivering value. Guru launches can generate a lot of buzz and fast signups, which can be great for a new program, but this industry doesn’t need hype, it needs value.
If a program delivers value, then it can have long-term success. If it does not, then it will just be a “flash in the pan”. Your programs deliver value to your members, so that certainly helps.
However, no JV launches might work well for TimTech, or Kinder-Rash, or Web’s Best Marketing because we already have an established brand and list to contact about our launch. Those who have not yet built up that brand can certainly use JV partners to help launch their site. When you are just starting out, the momentum of having some larger partners can give you the initial boost you need. If you deliver value, but only to 10 members, then it can take a long time to get going.

Amen, Jon! I think it’s GREAT that you brought it up! It’s so true though, how many times do you see people promoting each other’s programs and unless you are part of that “Secret Circle” you can’t join. I love the programs and communities where everyone gets a Fair Shake!
I’ve been hearing this same statement from others over the past few months. The “Circle of Friends Guru’s” are actually moving away from exploiting the IM markets and moving towards the Opportunity Seeker markets now.
When I first came online about a year and a half ago it seemed like there was a new “product launch” every week (perhaps more often than that). The JV members of the “circle” would each promote their buddy’s crappy products to their lists and make a quick buck, then do the same thing next week for the next crappy product.
Now the “game” is Webinars, but not to provide accurate and useful info, but mostly just to promote the latest greatest “push button money generating software” or to get people to sign up for their $1000 mentoring program where they teach you what worked a year ago.
We all need JV partners, but the “partner” now is a trusted friend or an online acquaintance that you’ve built a working relationship with over time, preferably someone that possesses the skills that you haven’t quite mastered yourself yet.
Social marketing helps you to find out who is legitimate and gives you the opportunity to network with those individuals so that you can work together and grow your business. It also gives you the chance to share your experiences, both good and bad, and to spread the word about those marketers that are only out to deceive others in order to make a quick buck.
Being part of a social network allows you to grow from the ground up, to build a solid foundation, and to be a part of a community that is bigger than yourself.
I just watched your video on being unique in the CTP Business mastery, and the part about the seth godin purple cow seems relevant here.
True leaders go out on a limb and do something different. The CEO of ATHOS has banned internal email, he worked out that thousands of man hours were being lost, and has tried something different.
Just remember that not every new idea will work, but keep on being creative and working with like minded people for best results.

This was a great post, congrats on the milestones that is awesome and i am proud to be part of this community with CTP and all of Timtech and learning all i can. Its more of a real feeling knowing that someone is there to help you, and not have to wait for a big time so called Guru to get back to you. I know in this community if i have a questions there is someone always there to help me +1 and keep me on track, and is not going to pitch me on the next big thing someone needs in this business.
