ThumbVu’s Evil Plans
Imagine an industry where no one took risks and changed things up a bit…Imagine a place where standard affiliate pages reigned supreme…Sounds like the traffic exchanges sometimes doesn’t it. If you are in business for yourself, part of the ‘secret’ to growing is to take risks….Kind of like we did this week at ThumbVu…
Be sure to add your comments below, hey this may be the worst idea ever but you can never say TimTech doesn’t try to shake things up and keep it exciting huh *lol*
Also, be sure to check out Patrick Griffin’s view on the changes he makes some very good points about how this change can help and hurt both advertisers and ThumbVu itself.
Here’s to the traffic exchange industry and folks that don’t follow the norm!

Couple of random thoughts…
(1) Might be a good time to change out the standard CTP pages for a creative splash page of your own. I’m seeing a LOT of them these days.
(2) Might be a good time for Timtech to reinforce the CTP training for the newbies to not only make their own splash pages, but make them stick out. Use this change to Thumbvu as a specific example of the benefits of doing so.
Stephen – good ideas, thanks man.
Hi Jon. I have no comment about ThumbVu in particular but I did want to say that I applaud the TimTech organization’s adventurous spirit. It can only lead to good things.
By the way, nice hat!
I think it is an interesting idea and I have already thought of a few cleaver/funny ways to get people to click on my thumbnail over the rest. Although I’m sure there will be some people that will not be a big fan of the change, I am excited to see the thumbnails in rotation over then next few weeks.
That being said, I’m not 100% sure if I love this idea or not yet, as I now see Thumbvu more like a glorified Banner Exchange than a traditional Traffic Exchange. Your paying per impression rather than views. Some people won’t be affected much by the change, while other DUSAP’ers will.
You N3RD’s know how to shake things up and get people talking, don’t you!
I like that you guys are trying new things… it will definitely encourage people to work towards getting higher click through rates on their thumbnails – better for the advertiser and better for the surfers, too, in my opinion.
Hopefully people will be encouraged to create some really great pages and then they can get better results all over the TEs!
Gary – thanks man. This might fail miserably but hey, at least we are going to give it go.
Eric – Yeah man, and to be honest I expect some very cool things from you man. You ‘get’ the importance of sticking out and I think guys like you will benefit HUGE from this. But hey, we gotta get people talking man. It’s the only way to move forward =)
Darren – thanks man, yup and Stephen brings up a really good point. We will need to focus on getting people into the mindset of actually creating awesome stuff that gets click throughs. It’s a bit of effort on advertisers part but hey, we’ll give it a shot!
Hi Jon I think it’s a great idea! It won’t be the end of the world if you need to change it back either. You never know this might become one of the best traffic exchange ideas ever!
And Jon it is completely ok with me if you take a day off. Everyone needs a day off and you deserve it!
See you later.
Barb
Jon how do I put my picture on here? Thanks.
Barb
Thanks Barbara =) Yeah who knows, this may fail…Or it may be a great idea. Only way to see is to try it out.
Jon,
I Do NOT think it’s a good idea. and here is why ……
#1 I want to say i am sorry for totally dominating Thumbvu clicks.
#2 the fact I will get more clicks for being so out there is not fair to people that are not working hard to build.
#3 I am drop dead sexy – this is not fair to other people
Ok come to think of it this is an awesome idea never mind …..
James M Dias
James – ha ha ha ha ha ha Awesome bro!
The more I think about this change the more I can see the huge potential that if offers both to ThumbVu and for the wider traffic exchange industry in general.
It will work or it won’t…one or the other.
If it doesn’t work then I am sure it will be dropped but then TimTech will come up with some new idea to stimulate traffic on ThumbVu and if you don’t like this change then you probably won’t like the next change either.
But if it works…
I can see ThumbVu as “the” traffic exchange to get your unique, outlandish, eye-catching, experimental, off-the-wall, daft, different or just plain strange adverts seen.
ThumbVu could be transformed into the site for the creative advertiser and the place for those who use standard affiliate pages to avoid at all costs.
There is no reason in the world why every traffic exchange in the world should be more or less the same.
I use Sweeva because it is different – I can get something out of it that I can’t get from any other traffic exchange.
I use List Surfing because get something out of it that I can’t get from any other traffic exchange.
Now I would like to have a compelling reason to use ThumbVu also and this could just be it.
If you are reading this you probably fall into one of four camps:
(i) you see the huge possibilities that this change can provide and are excited about it.
(ii) you are not yet sure whether you like the change or not but are willing to give it a go and see what happens.
(iii) you already hate it but are prepared to concede that it might not be as bad as you fear it will be.
(iv) you already hate it and nothing will change your mind.
Which category are you in?
I think I am going to have to remove all my rotators and keep putting in a fresh splash page to keep people’s interest. Although it is going to be more work on me, the advertiser, hopefully the click thru results will bring in fresh members to my sites.
As a creator of unique and stand out splash pages (many trophies at Sweeva)
I think this is a good change to the ThumbVu structure.
BUT
To become an expert with CTP you have to get x amount of page views at 10 sites, one of which is ThumbVu. Well most if not all CTP pages used to become expert are based on 3 templates which means they all pretty much are similar. Great for branding and exposure except there are so many trying for expert that my stats at ThumbVu already show unacceptable losses for a mandatory CTP expert step.
My point is replace ThumbVu in the expert steps with something else as changing rules midgame is very unfair.
I think this is probably a good change, I get sick of seeing the same old affiliate pages, and enjoy looking at original designs.I kind of have to disagree with Ron, I am going for CTP expert and the splash page I use is my own design not one of the three standard templates. I have seen a lot of really original CTP splash pages as well. Why make it too easy to just slap your name and photo on a page….force people to use some imagination and effort. If I see a CTP page on ThumbVu I will click on the CTP page, if nothing else catches my eye, just to help out fellow CTPers.
Also, I agree with Patrick, Sweeva and List surfing both offer something different than the usual click and show traffic exchanges. These are the only two I have upgraded on a yearly subsription. Maybe now Thumb-Vu may join them.
